Here is a team of Widnes born players I have put together who have all recently played or are currently playing in Super League can anyone improve on it, have I missed any one out? Must be Widnes born and have played or are playing Super League to qualify. I think it shows some of the local talent that has slipped away! No Comments please on what you think is the quality of some of them, they have all played Super League.
Props the Chaplehows now at Newcastle but played Super League for Widnes
Hooker Chris Atkin Salford
Second rows Sam Walters Leeds and Adam Lawton Widnes
Loose forward Jarrod O`Connor Leeds
Half Backs Richie Myler Leeds Harry Smith Wigan
Wingers Owen Buckley and Ryan Ince both played Super League for Widnes
Centres Mark Percival and Ben Davies both at Saints
Full Back Olly Ashall Bott now at Toulouse but played Super League for Widnes and I think London
Subs
Jack Owens Widnes (nearly put Jack in at full back but decided on the bench for his versatility)
Matty Fozard Widnes but played S/L for Saints
Joe Lyons Widnes
Shane Grady Widnes also I think played S/L for London
Danny Richardson? Where is Lewis Dodd from?
George Delaney made his debut for Saints this season, big things expected of him.
Right then let's go with Richardson in the halves with Myler at full back moving OAB to the bench in place of Lyons. Looking like a good team this, 8 of them currently playing Super League.
Aren't the Chapel Of Rest Bros from Runcorn?
Paulie xx
@gpo1971 dodd is from St Helens.
According to his Twitter bio he's from Widnes.
According to Wiki it says Jay is from Runcorn and Ted is from Widnes so I doubt they are both correct but I do know for a fact that they went to Farnworth primary school until at least year 5 but they did go to The Heath secondary school so the family must have moved at some point. Anyway I'm short of props (seems to be a Widnes thing) so they are in up till now.
Must admit I thought Lewis Dodd was from Widnes but his Wikki page says St Helens although it lists Halton Hornets as his amateur team so it's possible he was either born or grew up in Widnes. Does anybody know?
Lewis Dodd is definitely from widnes
I saw a quiz question somewhere that was 'name the 6 Widnes-born halves currently plying their trade in SL'. I suppose 5 of them are Atkin, Smith, Myler, Dodd and Richardson, not sure who the 6th could be??
Thanks he's in then, that makes 9 Widnes lads, I think, currently playing Super League. Oh what might have been eh! Just need 3 more and a South African and we've cracked it.
After last nights performance I think I might have to move O'connor to hooker.
Anyone know the answer to the gpo1971 question regarding the 6 half backs?
Anthony Mullally for a prop if you don’t fancy the 2 Chaplehows starting
I had considered Mullally but I believe he has retired so I left him out, also I thought Gilmore was a Widnes lad but his Wikki page says born in St Helens. Anybody know for definite, I know he was in the same class as Jack Owens at P and P.
