Ok so now we have LT out of our system, what will be the preferred starting line up ?
realise we still do not know about scrums, but would that affect the line up as they are uncontested and largely irrelevant in the line up

so

full back Owens

wingers ince

centre Tyler,

rest to follow

Obviously it will depend on how players go in training which we do not know but I will go with

Owens, Ince, Fleming, Tyrer,  Holroyd, Craven, Smith, Dupree, Fozzard, Farnwoth, Lawton, (Davies,Wilde, Grady or Brown), Baker Subs Tilleke, Nzoungou, Hulme, Lyons

The other second row to partner Lawton could be any of one of four. I think Wilde may just edge it for his defence. I may have the wingers the wrong way around. We may also bring Lawton on as an impact player off the bench but personally i would start him.

We are certainly going to make the headlines by the looks of it.

One selection has the team consisting of three players albeit that one of the players is selected three times under various cunning aliases.

The alternative selection put forward has us starting with an additional three players and 16 players taking the field. This would be my favoured approach if we could get away with it 😉

Like many others I’m looking forward to the forthcoming Batley game.

Not sure of the rules for friendlies, especially if we can expect quite a few player interchanges during the game. But I would welcome an opportunity to see how the new squad members perform before making my team selection for the start of the 2022 season.

A question for you, how important to the players are squad numbers ? with several players vying for the same shirt eg number nine.

Much better season needed compared to the poor one last year, that's the first thing to be said.

Will Smith or Lyons start at SH? For me I liked Smith at 13 and that coincided with some better performances and results but signing Brown would suggest to me he will start 13.

If Fozard stays fit and rotates well with Gregory and Hulme that will go a long way to improve things IMO.

Not sure we will see Hulme (or another hooker) on the bench early season, espeicially on heavy grass pitches. That said, no Spedding?

I think the squad seems to be a bit stronger than last year - more depth and more well balanced but, as was discussed before Christmas the obvious problem is the lack of props and perhaps injury concerns being carried by one or two players.

if we can get a bit of luck with key players (not least the props) not getting injured then we should be better than last season.

@steelviking Yes it was either Spedding or Fleming.  We know what Spedding can do & that his defence is not 100% at times & he is perhaps more likely to be used as cover for centre or wing I would suggest. Holroyd although he played in the lower league last year is a proven winger & got rave reviews so is likely to occupy a wing place. Hence my choice of Fleming in the starting 13.  Only my view of course. Our coach may start the season with Spedding as the incumbent centre from last year but I would expect Fleming to end up as first choice eventually if not from game one.

e@geoffw nice to have a selection ‘problem’ like that from the coach’s perspective.

Owen, Ince, Fleming, Tyrer, Holyroyd, Craven, Smith, Dupree, Fozzard, Baker, Bent, Davies, Brown. Subs Lawton, Farnworth, Dec Gregory/Hulme, Nzog

Pascal thinks Bent will be one to watch has plenty of passion.

Sorry forgot about Wilde so he replaces Davies. What a squad compared to last year. Still Grady, Tilleke, Brooks, Edge, Lyons, Roby and Spedding in Reserve
