I agree with you up to a certain point Owl, but part of me also thinks that if you can put together a scratch team and just have a couple of ‘getting to know you’ sessions it says an awful lot that they can then give one of the better teams in the league a really good run for their money the standard of the game in the league is ar an all time low,

This a problem look at Newcastle using York reserves. Without them and a kind fixture list they not be 2nd in the league. This is why i say best to get the best squad you can with the odd decent youngster or the odd loan from Super League with that extra quality. In pivital positions you can not rely on it look how long Hayes stayed for mate and we was lucky to have Billington for 10 games.
