It’s tough, our two props right now are Wilde and Tilleke, against a full time SL opposition.

Think it’s a little unfair to criticise our middles too much this game.

Agreed.

We've had batterings like this when we were in SL too in fairness!

Sort out our defence in the middle and we’ll do alright. At least we play some attractive stuff with ball in hand. We have some genuine speed in this side who’ll do well in the Championship

Next week against championship opposition with a stronger squad of players to pick from will give us a better guide to our chances this season.

Just what we did not want. Confidence will be knocked & bodies very badly bruised. We have to improve vastly on our line defence or we will lose a lot of games in the championship too. Hill is the only positive we can take from this.

I'm sorry, but no, this is garbage. This is not a good Salford team, this is not a Top SL team we are up against. conceding 64 points is not acceptable. We can make up all the excuses we want but from what we have seen from Widnes this season so far, we look like a low to mid table championship team at Best.

Second half has been a total embarrassment. A poor SL team made to look like world beaters. Need to get some loan players in before the next game.

Our supporters have to realise we are at present a mid table championship side at best. Some patience has to be in evidence. Hopefully we can improve our financial situation going forward but IMO we need to develop our relationship with the local amateur sides to ensure we continue to get new players coming through now we have lost the academy. Otherwise I cannot see us progressing. At least we are trying to play expansive rugby when we have the ball in hand to entertain our fans.

Even a top SL side would have to play well to score 60 points against a championship team. I suspect Salford will be bottom 2 this year and our defence collapsed under very little pressure or quality play. Has to improve, or we will struggle to beat Batley.

Okay, we looked like we had good shape in attack but ultimately, we scored one try. Even an amateur side scored 2 tries against a SL side.

Can’t believe I’m reading a Widnes supporters forum!

Beaten by a bigger, fitter and more experienced full time team who outplayed us in the second half but we were certainly not disgraced.

There was absolutely no point in going flat out in defence and risking an injury. I’m sure most fans realised this was a game we couldn’t  win with a mix of young inexperienced players and some older ones past their best.

We tried out some good moves and gave our younger players a good opportunity to gain valuable SL and cup experience.

If the rolls where reversed and Widnes was the superleague team that's the result we would all expect to see. Against a full strength Widnes side it would of been a lot closer, made some nice moves, made some bad mistakes, unlucky going over the line on two occassions, the youngsters gave their all and our forwards not fit as yet, we ARE a part time team end of

“Part-time underdogs heavily defeated by profession SL team.”

The headline doesn’t come close, but that’s all many will see! Having seen that game today it gives me a lot more confidence in Finnegan. Owens at 13 and Tyrer in the pack actually worked quite well and to watch them as a team you wouldn’t guess that we had less than half our players on the pitch or in their intended positions!

Breaking the game down, we played some lively rugby at times with some lovely runaround moves. Today definitely gives me more confidence than I felt after the game last week! I think all our lads gave all they had today. Can’t ask for more really.

Last 10 minutes were really bad.

Shame really because for 60 mins or so it wasn't a disaster.

Like it or not, we were playing Salford. Mid-Table Championship or not, it still grates to lose by 68-4 to them, for me anyway.

Hopefully reinforcements for Dewsbury next week and 2 points.

I agree it is not good. You have to look at the situation though. Circumstances have left us with no experienced hooker, forwards missing through injury & covid, very young part time  players pitting themselves against  huge men in the likes of Pauli Pauli. A youngster making his debut. A prop making his debut so unfamiliar with plays etc & being  so short of forwards we started with a centre at second row. I just hope the Covid outbreak does not spread further & we have no more injuries from this game.
