The truth is that Rugby league is struggling.moneywise sponsers crowds interest TV viewers..everything really. So is union outside of the international game.......
Union has had 2 American buyouts this week on the back of the WC being there. Exeter and Cornwall. That's after Newcastle at the start of the season (admittedly, they've been shite).
RU isn't the same basket case RL is. No chance.
The sport is constantly shrinking and this is yet another move in that direction. They need to reverse this trend and start thinking about local expansion and growing the sport. Pretty much every idea pushed through from the idiots at the top of the sport over the last 10 years or so has directly resulted in less fans, less players and now less teams. They need to move with the times and update their thinking.
They can try and convince everyone that this will not result in Championship clubs becoming feeder teams but how can it be anything else. Rugby League for me has always been about watching our lads in black and white go up against 'their lads' in whatever colour they play for. But this loan system and the DRs really do take the edge off. It is harder to get excited when a loan player does something good because you know they will be whipped back to their original club in no time. This will only make it worse.
