Roby was very good in his short cameo
Lyons was poor
Smith was ok
Forwards were all decent
Lawton conned a try.. Why wait til 15 to go to bring him on?
Defence was ok, but nothing going forward and even Lawton’s try was a double movement.
Not sure where we go from here. A battering against Leigh and on this form a probable loss against Batley.
Players looked dispirited at times - and probably the travelling fans too!!
Roby has to start at fullback in the next game. I’d be tempted to play Owens in the halves.

Baker is wasted at prop and we need Craven back, who may offer something different in the half-backs. Tilleke should be given a game, but agree that any chance of a play-off spot is disappearing fast.

In the last 2 game’s Finnegan has brought Davies on for the first time after 60 minutes , and tonight Lawton after 55 minutes. Other teams spell their forwards after 20 minutes. And as I said the other day, we should play Roby at full back and Owens at half back instead of Lyons.
And what’s happened to Tyrer, he’s been rubbish the last few matches.

Newcastle only had 2 which backs up that we defended reasonably but I think more pertinently that both teams are not that good.
Last 3 away games we have scored 4 at Leigh, 6 at York and 6 yesterday.
Leigh at home probably won't be pretty, neither will be the crowd for Batley if we are not careful.

Re the hooker situation - Can only assume that Finnigan lacks confidence in Liam Hulme and Dec Gregory which isn’t great (if true) considering they joined the club on his watch.

I take the completion rates with a pinch of salt - even with a 100% completion rate, the way Widnes have been moving the ball it would make no difference.
