We are told he is contracted for 2023. However he is NOT included in the new First Team Members recently posted on the club website. I know there is uncertainty to say the least over his situation but if he is still contracted to the club he surely should be listed in the current squad. This type of thing only confuses spectators more than they have been already over this player's situation. Irrespective of whether he is likely to play or not he is either part of the squad or not. Hovering in the ether only serves to add to the confusion.

A club clarifying statement would seem to be appropriate at  this stage?

Do you mean 2022 Geoff?

@cuerdley-viking Yes of course. A senior moment! Thanks for pointing it out. I cannot change it now either!

I have been banging on about this for ages, there is something seriously wrong here, we have a player contracted to us that at season start will not have laced his boots for the best part of 2 years

signed by the coach who resigned under unknown circumstances and he has not played since ?

It’s really bizarre. If he has left the club why not make a statement? Obviously there is a possibility that he has been left off the squad list on the club website in error but it doesn’t seem that likely does it?

Whilst I agree it's strange, it may be the Club are in the process of resolving the situation and don't want to compromise the outcome, or breach confidentiality over Logan's state of health. It has/is taking an inordinate amount of time to resolve I accept! I feel sure he will not be our player for the 2022 Season!

The main problem in my mind is that even if Logan was to return to full health, surely we can not go into battle with four hookers on the books and a lack of props.

Though a fit Tomkins would be an asset, no updates have been made on his health and surely we can not afford to pay his wage if there is no prospect of him lacing his boots in the near future.

I think it is now well past the point when the club should have released an update if just to stop speculation. It would be very poor business practice if the club was obliged either legally or morally, to ay a player for his full contract if he was unable to play.

If only it was that simple, there is a lot more to it than that

What's the big deal ? It's pretty obvious he won't be playing for Widnes again, or any other club.Nobody needs to know the details,it will be resolved privately.

I agree, sinbad, that we ought not be told the details of the private arrangements between Tomkins and the club, nothing to do with us - what we all want to know, though, is when he is off our books and his wages thus available for future signings.

@ditton-donkey it really is simple though - he is either in the squad or he isn’t - the details as to why or why not are between the club and the player.

The club are not obliged to inform anyone of anything. Sunny, how do you know he is still being paid ? Maybe the club have  retained him on the register 'just in case'.I don't know, there could be other reasons, none of which concern us.

If he still is getting paid, then that is money that could have been used elsewhere.

But I suppose that is the risk you take when any player gets given a contract and gets long term injured, so is not necessarily just a Logan Tomkins specific issue.

@sinbad  So, say Logan Tomkins was our marquee player and fans thought along the lines of “That’s a great move buy the club I’ll buy my season ticket now”, only to find that the marquee player doesn’t turn out for the club once during the season and the club knew he wouldn’t. The fans would have a case for asking for their money back if they were so minded.

The details of the situation should be kept in-house but (details aside) the fans should be told who is in the squad.

Surely somebody who is working as a firefighter cannot be injured enough to prevent them playing rugby for 2 years. All employers have a capability route within HR. If Logan is not able to play and unlikely to be so in a reasonable period of time he is not capable of fulfilling his part of the contract which can be terminated.

Why have they not been using him for all the community work alongside Jack and Danny.

The club promised honesty and openess but apparently the fans who collectively  put more money in to club to save it than any director don't deserve even basic info.
