Lee Briers

Wire have tried a variety of coaching personnel and still haven’t found a ‘winner’. They have spent and brought in class players but somehow the reliability to get results hasn’t happened. Looks as if a ‘clear out’ has been decreed and get some new ideas and faces around – too many faces are part of the furniture and that can become comfort zone territory.

Warrington is a strange team, been pretty successful in the CC, were fairly consistent in the league until Steve Price took over and then they subsequently became more inconsistent. They have spent money, had some outstanding players but they appear to be suffering from a stigma at the club, maybe an inferiority complex when it comes to the very big games?

You could well be right Spike I.

Looks like they are going for a re vamp to bring in new ideas, UK ones at that.

Regarding Briers, it wouldn't surprise me if he follows Jon Clark though. Better money and less hastle.

Met a retired copper over here in Wales the other year who was responsible for getting Briers picked up on Saturday night in Warrington. Not sure what that was about 😉

Why on earth is this in the Widnes Vikings thread.

Why not start a thread predicting that Woolf is being lined up for next year or Wayne Bennett etc. and they will be bringing in Walmsley, Percival and Roby from St Helens or half the Rabbitohs team. Just nonsense and some would still moan and criticise the club if they did that!!!.

We already have a coach in Simon Finnegan, who has a two-year deal. I was disappointed when Sheens left, but some didn't rate Sheens either. I am prepared to give Finnegan a chance.

Some have written Finnegan off after one league defeat and a draw. It could be worse, we could be in the position of York, London or Swinton. Maybe Watson, Marshall, Duffy or Chester will be available soon with their record this year in SL!!!!

Maybe a few wins over the next five games will sooth everyone's apprehensions for the coming season and you never know, may even encourage a the constant critics to be positive about the coach and the club for once.

Don’t be down hearted Frank, because when I first started watching the Chemic's, Ray French was playing for us.

Don’t recall the fixture but “an old timer” standing behind me was belly-aching about Ray all through the match because he’d played for Saints or in RU (can’t remember which now) and bellowed for all to hear that the dual code international forward  “couldn’t even tackle a good dinner!”

That's life!!

The only thing lacking at the club is MONEY.

If we had more MONEY, we'd have better players. As it is, it is going to be a struggle for years. Tough Titty.

Up The Chemics!

I agree that it is the "right" for a fan to have a go at players, the coach, the ref and anyone else. It used to be from the terraces as you say. These days it is mainly on line. Part of the game I suppose.

I am not down hearted and have supported Widnes through thick and thin for a long time from the days of Harry Dawson. I just get fed up with certain people deciding to constantly criticise a player or the coach or the Board. I am an optimist and always believe that everything will improve "tomorrow". You have to be if you support Widnes!!!

It does seem a fruitless exercise to start a thread identifying a future coach when we have a coach in place who should be given a chance; and there is no evidence that Briers actually has any interest in joining a part-time Championship team, particularly Widnes.

Up the Chemics.

I am sure that Briers has had any number of offers to coach elsewhere but he hasn't moved.

Maybe he would rather be a backroom boy on a reasonable wage, but limited responsibility. Being 'the man' doesn't suit everyone.

Finnigan has a 2 year contract IIRC.

Can't see that being paid up early unless we are in the relegation zone.

As for Briers, no thanks. Very good player, unproven coach. We have already taken the risk with 2 relatively inexperienced head coaches in the last 3 appointments.

Are both Briers and Henderson better than the YTS coach we’ve got at present?

Are you sure either of them would want to coach us?

I think if the board was positive they’d rip your hand off for the job!

I’m not sure what you mean. As you have said, the club is run poorly, the CEO doesn’t know what he is doing, we have a small squad, the players we have are unfit, disinterested or not up to the job. We are relying on two week loans and the players brought in are mostly kids.

How do you imagine that is going to entice any coach to want to join us ?

Anyway, how is - in this case Briers - any more qualified than the current coach ? Name an SL or Championship side that he has been head coach for ? I suspect that the Smith / Briers combination relied pretty heavily on the Smith bit.

It seems to be my user name on line and on the pitch. I don't know the answer, if I did I

would be head coach.

I don’t think Briers would be much better as a coach, but I think Henderson would, as he has proven himself as a good coach at London. Wether he would come or if we could afford him is another thing.

Bring Briers to the club as a player then, I bet he’s ten times fitter than that barrel who currently occupies the number 7 shirt!
