It’s over a year since anyone posted anything on the Amateur RL forum. Sad to see given that the amateur game is (well used to be) the stepping stone to the ‘professional’ game. Like I say the lack of activity / interest / enthusiasm is sad to see. Again, just saying.
It is very sad when you think of the number of teams that use to play the game. Loved the summer as a youngster watching the works comp on Leigh rec👍
On this, the demise of Widnes' youth set up will also have a massive impact on community rugby league in the town. It all needs to thrive, with a foundation driving activity with development sessions at the stadium to then feed players into community clubs. Ultimately, it creates a healthier pool of players and impact on the community.
Other towns do this largely with volunteers, the club won't move forward until this is back in place.
You never see a game on Dundalk Road fields anymore.Gossages rec or Leigh rec,as we used to say.
Absolutely true. I suggested some time ago that maybe the club could liaise with the local amateur game to offer the odd joint training sessions or something.
Maybe hosting a local game as pre- Championship game entertainment with a bucket collection at half time? That would at least use the advantage of our all weather pitch.
There was a feeling that our past owners weren't inclined to welcome others, but that must have changed by now!
