I have today set up WidnesRugby+, an optional membership service to help support the running costs of the website and forum.
You will have noticed the ads disappeared a few months ago with this in mind. The ads just about covered the hosting costs of the forum, but were extremely intrusive. I would much rather more people used the site, than be put off with ads. I have probably been running the forum for maybe 15 years now, after initially hosting it for Trust in Widnes, and then taking it over after their demise.
I have tried to lobby the local newspapers to provide more coverage, but they won't even commit to paying buttons. So instead, it looks like independent coverage is going to fall on my shoulders via this website.
My plan is to try and create much more written content, like you would see on a local newspaper website, and then hopefully more podcasts.
I have been toying with doing this for a long time, but finally pushed the button today and I would appreciate anyone who wishes to support it. It may be a big flop, and to be honest I'm actually pleased with myself for getting to the stage where I've launched it as it's a typical thing that I always put off waiting for the perfect time!
Any feedback and thoughts most welcomed 🙏
Just been on James. However I couldn't pay by card as for some reason it did not accept my "Zip Code" and even my mobile was flagged a no-go. Managed a little with pay pal. Good luck 👍 👍

Thanks Martin. Just waiting on verification from Stripe to get the Apple Pay/Google Pay stuff set up.
Count me in James - but I'll wait until the pay facility is sorted. I struggle with modern technology!!!!!
