The simple fact is the club need investment and he’s offering a decent amount for championship level to improve the squad. It’s a no brainer for me. Just offer a seat at the table and an equal say for his money as we are drifting away from super league level

If we're spending full Salary Cap next year technically we don't need the investment right now, unless the funds can be diverted on to other things. However based on what he was saying he wants to spend it on players
Its a decent amount but not loads and not game changing
Good on the guy for wanting to put money in and the present lot don`t seem to be able to match it ...but is it anything like enough for SL...no, nothing like enough looking at £1m at start for that and continuing on.......Last year the entry of York and Bradford ,London next? shows you can buy your way into SL,in fact it seems to be the only way in but the sums involved are big
That may be the present boards thinking .....good amount but not `league`changing
@spideylizard we could use it to go towards a proper academy. Fund the womens team with match payments like York, Wigan and Saints to attract better players or employ some off field support like a general manager. If we ever want SL these are the things we need in place. The actual standard of players in SL is pretty poor so not a massive issue in my opinion. Hudds, Cas, Hull etc are rubbish to be honest.

I agree with all of that. But from what he was saying I just don’t think he wants it spent that way

Can`t say I agree with this...........If SL players are rubbish what does that make Championship players.
Three clubs are quoted the etc is another 4 looking at the table ie half of SL
In the SL table there is gap but it`s at the 7 to 8 positions
The botton 7 are all within 6 points...it`s very competitive.
Less so the top 7 with a 10 point gap between 1 and 7
The up to 14 teams has resulted in a competitive league, the table and results back this up
SL players are generally elite athletes......the game is played differently to the Championship...it`s so much more athletic ,faster and the players are very skillful.
The games are entertaining.
Yes the NRL is another step up
I would doubt if the Chamionship is up to the NRL state cups
It`s like when footy fans say a premier league player is rubbish..........
@owl I watch a lot of SL, not because its good to watch but I put a few bets on. However the standard has reallly gone downhill.
To be honest the SL TV money has halved from what it was 10 years ago, clubs are losing £1.5m to £3m a season and the NRL has taken off, so its no wonder standards have dropped to be honest. Have a read through some of the squads Saints, Wigan, Leeds and Bradford had in the early 2000's compared to now.
The difference between SL and the Championship = full time training. Bradford, York and Toulouse have proved this, going up at very short notice, running with existing squads with 5 or 6 players left over as late signings and they are just as good as Cas, Hudds and Hull who have been in SL for years. London the same, ok some decent players but mostly not NRL players, they are lower division players but the full time element means after 60 mins they just pull away.
SL very skillful I would say no with a few exceptions. Very fit and strong from training full time on weights, conditioning and recovery, yes.
And Premier League is worldwide stars on £300k a week with 4 full time pro divisions and pro leagues all over the world to cherry pick players from, so yes I agree they are good. You can see from how few local players make it at Liverpool and Everton despite world class youth setups and all the money in the world to fund them.

I understand what you are saying....I think the attacking skill is still there at the same level but rather than go down in terms of defence it`s gone up as you say due to `Very fit and strong from training full time on weights, conditioning and recovery, `giving the impression there is an overall decline. So I would say skill same and defence better nulifying attacking skill which in the past were more visible due to weaker defence.
My remark about footy fans ...there are no poor players in Premiership or Championship and probs League 1/2 which would be equivalent to SL.
Top of Championship National League and botton NL N and S
this in terms of average skill levels club resources to player and game analysis etc
@owl you must be watching a different SL from me.
The standard of fitness amongst the players is elite, the skill level generally isn't. SL has been poor for the best part of 10 years, I don't exactly know why, but it is. As Dan says, if you watch games from the 2000s, the squads were unbelievable, chocker full of proper rugby talent. It's not like that now. Every time I watch 5 drives and a free-for-all kick to the corner, a piece of me dies; it's a crap watch.
I pick and choose my SL games now, never used to. There are a lot of boring games. I'll always watch a Wigan v Saints or something like that but at least half the fixtures are unappealing. I mean, I'd sooner watch Live and Let Die on ITV4 than sit through something like York v Bradford, Hull v Toulouse. No thanks.

10/15 years ago.....fitness,players lifestyle monitoring etc etc was nothing like the standard it it is now(some players can`t cope with this....hence are dropped by SL) Match analysis was nothing like the detail on the present.
What I am saying that the skill level in attack is the same or even better now than then...what opened up defences then does not do it now.
Defence and how to stop the opposition is much better now due to the players themselves and data analysis etc.
Tactics have moved on ...the 5 drives and a kick etc.....is playing to the %s......10 years ago teams did try more open attacking plays but for the game now they lost the ball and field position too much.........the error count is all important.........might be crap to watch for some..................I still think it`s good watch. There are good players and some great trys .
The Championship is all together different....the error count is horrendous in so many aspects of the game. compared to SL.....The same Widnes errors both as a team and individual players are there every week for all to see......does it matter ..........well sure AC is not happy but what can he do about it ?..or any part time set up? There is not time to go into the detail required
....and you don`t get punished as much for the errors.
......you can have poor stats and still win....
Nah, don't agree with any of your assessment of SL mate.
Nah, don't agree with any of your assessment of SL mate.
Regardless of SL/Champ players abilities, the biggest advantage between the both leagues is what goes on off the field. The resources afforded to the Championship players is 'miles off' compared to the SL Clubs. More physios, conditioners, analysis. One player at Widnes had a hernia, and played with it, until they could get him in for the op. WV take a chance on not paying a big insurance premium (I'm not saying they have no insurance), but any bad injuries that require operations are paid for when necessary. It's a gamble that could save the Club money, but it could bite them on the arse. If it happened at Saints or Wire, the player would be scanned, and operated on within a week. It's all about the resources, unfortunately the Championship Clubs are run on a shoestring. No different to Society, really. You either pay extra for BUPA or get on the NHS waiting list.

Yes......that is a good analysis .
And the stuff off the field in SL is also nothing like the standard in Premier league football .
However it must be said that even with all the resources some players are still never going to be good enough for SL and so play in Championship
It's either physically, mentally or both where players fail to reach possible potential.
Not sure about rugby league but in football ,where I have more hands on knowledge it's nearly always mental. There are so many players who are technically equal whilst size may exclude a few,the ones who make it do so because of thier mentality.
The player pool in football is vast compared to rugby, which is also split between league and union
In other words you don't have to be that great to make the top grade compared to football.
