Bad day at the office at Doncaster, however remaining games are

                        P     GD   Fixtures

Wakefield:       46    636   Barrow (H), Doncaster (H)

Toulouse:         33    344  Widnes (A), Batley (H)

Bradford:         32    249  Halifax (A), Swinton (H)

Sheffield:         28    146  York (H), Dewsbury (A)

Widnes:           27      80  Toulouse (H) Barrow (A)

York:               26    140   Sheffield (A), Featherstone (H)

Featherstone:   26     94   Dewsbury (H), York (A)

Doncaster:       23   (57)  Swinton (A), Wakefield (A)

Can't see Doncaster winning both last games and York and Featherstone both losing all their games, plus Doncaster's points difference is poor.

With Bradford, Toulouse and Wakefield (obviously) all certain to be in the top six, the remaining three places are between Sheffield, Widnes, York and Featherstone. We need to win one more game, I think, with York having the hardest set of fixtures. Not that there are any easy games in this league.

Can't really see us winning both temaining games either. A lot will depend on the weather. We play much better on a dry track. It is good Barrow won today so they are probably safe. We should beat Barrow if they are safe. Our squad is slightly better than theirs but if they need to win & a bad day it will bring us to their level.

Toulouse have lost a few especially away but must start favourites. If games go our way one win will do, if not we finish 7th.

It’s quite simple - we are not good enough

enjoyed this season as we have competed well

will be there for last home game and really, really hope we can win that

when you are 2 scores down why do you take the 2 ?
schoolboy error

discipline is shocking

need a really good centre and a decent half back and another second row, that’s assuming Reilly is fit for next year, brooks has improved massively which helps

it’s always next season !

Geoff, just checked the forecast for the Toulouse game, its going to be dry!

We are limping to the finish line, and it has been a much better season so it will be heart-breaking if we don't end up in the playoffs.

Hoping Sam Wilde is back next week as we miss him in the back row. Need some bigger forwards next season, strike centre and another half back who has a running game and can kick long. Don't think Patton is the answer personally. It also seems we don't do well in wet conditions, as always dropping the ball. Need some size up front and up the jumper completing the sets, with a half back who can kick long. It will be disappointing if don't make the playoffs.

@7-vikingnomad I’ve calmed down now since the game. Whilst I’m still not confident we’ll make, let’s make something crystal clear

we are good enough otherwise we wouldn’t be in the playoff positions nor would we have been there consistently since week 1. If we don’t finish in them then over the whole course of the season we weren’t consistent or good enough to finish in the playoffs.

Forget wakey between 2nd -7th there is only 7 points and to 8th only an extra 3 points. It’s a very competitive championship and, unlike the prestigious competition above us, no team are ‘packing in’ because they know they are safe from relegation.

This season is progression from the last 5/6 years no matter what the end result is. Onwards and upwards

Probably because time was virtually up for the end of the first half, and it meant going in to the break 2 scores behind instead of 3. It was the right move IMHO, but as it turned out, it proved irrelevant.

I feel AC has improved the effort and togetherness of the squad which is something I’m sure we can all agree on. The limited resources available seems to be our biggest problem. I don’t know why we can’t compete with other “smaller” clubs in signing better players, maybe because we aren’t an attractive club or Widnes doesn’t seem an attractive place to live but we should be top 4 every season at this level. The obvious answer is we don’t own the stadium which would be a huge money maker for us, I know the running costs would be a drain but what are our income revenues?

ticket sales and merchandise, WVIPS, sponsorship… we need the board to be more proactive and transparent to the supporters.

Owning the stadium would bankrupt the club in ragtime.

Truth is it's not fit for purpose. It's too big (14000), we have never, ever needed a stadium this large, even in 1989, and the pitch hampers recruitment and the ability to hold neutral cup-ties/rep games. London Broncos/York's would be more suitable. We'd be better having a smaller stadium built on the Backhouse land in Ditton Rd, and letting the Council build houses on The DCBL.

@pauliewalnuts There was nearly 3 minutes left when we got the penalty, about 10-15 yards out so time for 2 sets of six , if we didn’t score of the first set. So I think going for the 2, was like us saying to Doncaster, we’re going to take the 2, because we don’t think we can score against you from 10 yards out, in 6-12 tackles.

@farnworth-viking You say Tom-R-toe, Allan Coleman says Tom-Hay-Toe. He gets paid to call the shots, you pay to watch. Both could be wrong, both could be right. If you say we should have run it for maybe 2 sets, we actually took 2pts and got the ball back for about 4 tackles. Hooter sounded when we were on the half way line.

It was a ridiculous decision to go for two points.

I am with you on this mate it is ridiculous seeing a 13400 stadium with 2500 to 3k fans. Even in Super league our big games, I think our best was around 9500 against Saints and Warrington. If we are realistic an 8k to 9k would be best, if want ambition in Super league. York or London size stadiums and sell stadium for houses.

Building our own (smaller) stadium would entail the small matter of finding about £10-12M from somewhere. Any ideas?

Not necessarily, it can still be owned by the Council, paid for by the sale of the DCBL for housing. A new, smaller capacity venue, would be more appropriate, and cheaper to maintain.
