We have gone with Warrington again.
Hope it works out better for us than last season, when we didn’t get much help off them, especially when we were struggling to name 17 fit players.
Well I for one am pleased we have got an arrangement with a better SL club. There have been some posts condoning an arrangement with a league one club due to the size of our squad to get them game time if not in the first 17 or 19. However due to the physicality of the game it is not unusual for a club to have multiple injuries & that could occur in a particular position. Indeed last year we had no cover for centre at times & very thin on props at times. So this is a necessary & very good move IMO.
However I do think there is no reason why we cannot still have an arrangenent with a league one club to take our squad players who need game time to keep them match fit. We do not have to be limited to an arrangement with 1 club although it may have to be on a more casual arrangement basis if the laws on this say so.
Yes agree we could have an arrangement with another club, or could our players turn out for the wire reserves ?
I’ve heard we could be dual regging with a lower league club as well, so squad players can play and keep fit.
Dont think it will be Swinton though 🙄
Never really been a fan of Dual Registration because you can have them and then be gone in 2 weeks. Personally I think this will be used as a last resort, and for our weak positions like centre. We need to be the best team possible on the pitch to attract old and new fans, which should be the aim. All this IMG will do is put certain clubs into debt once a money person has enough of investing, so we need to be self sufficient too. An example seeing Salford struggling and when Ken Davy leaves at Huddersfield. A little old is this Ken Davy at Huddersfield. So if this dual saves us money, better quality players I am all for it to help us, and vice versa to a league 1 club.
With the current TV deal the way it is, absolutely no point in getting in to SL. Warrington lost £1.7 million last year and Saints £1.3m both on crowds over 10k. Salford had a massive loan off the council and sold 2 players to Leeds for about £300k to keep themselves afloat. The money has run out for them again already. Salford are one of the few clubs without a rich benefactor and they have no money to keep going.
With crowds of about 6,500 for us in SL and the drop of £800k TV money per season compared to last time we played in SL sadly we would have no chance. Most of the Championship clubs are actually in a better place than SL sides. How long before the owners of Wire, Saints etc start to run out of money at the current rate of losses? Over to you IMG/ RFL CCommercial. A sad state of affairs, but true.
@dan1 If we had spent our cut from Sky last time instead of certain people ripping off the club then we may well still be in SL.
I would prefer to remember the good times in the past when we were the cup kings, playing some great rugby.
i would prefer to forget about the debacles of recent, and previous managements
i look forward to next season with a positive spirit and we can build from there
this great club is probably in a better position than most, as previous stated if the sugar daddies go - they up that creek aren’t they
shuddersfield in particular - a team that finished bottom many times in the franchise era, and now reported to be moving to a new build smaller ground (IMG points I suppose )
but I believe our great club has turned the corner and many better days are ahead
onwards and upwards
Warrington are now dual with Keighley as well.
Wow they will be nicking a few from Keighley then
@dan1 if Wigan, Saints and Wire can get over 10k fans a game and still lose £1.5M+ a season, that tells its own story. No point us even contemplating SL unless Roman Abramovic is moving to Lunts Heath Rd and fancies a new project.
SL looks like it is racing towards failure tbh, a likely further reduction in Sky input plus, as you say, bigger debts needing sugar daddy input! It can't go on for ever and the Championship 'share' of Sky will be on the SL menu.
Stay solvent by our own efforts is the challenge for all clubs if the game is to survive.
@sandgroper absolutely spot on the money there
championship needs to look after its own interests, if
a tv deal of some description (Saturdays) would be a good start
a vastly reduced salary cap ( correctly monitored) linked to crowds and sponsorship income also would help, so more of a level playing field
