Kear needs to shoulder some of the responsibility if complacency was an issue as implied by the comments made by Kyle Amor. Having a winger on the bench ahead of Hatton and Davies (his comments after the game suggests both players were fit and could have played) smacks of over confidence.

I wouldn't have thought Widnes were in a position to be over confident against any professional opposition.Don't you have to be a good team to be complacent?

Well we have all come out with the usual calls to sack the manager; attacking the board for being amateur because we have not been able to attract a millionaire investor; and the players being too complacent or simply not good enough.

Maybe the Board should write to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and point out that if his Man. Utd. bid doesn’t work out, we could be a good option for his investment!!

Kear is a well respected manager in the game and should be judged over the season. Maybe there was some complacency from the players and the manager yesterday, but hopefully this will lead to some immediate positive reaction.

As to his game plan, have people watched NRL and SL games? In most games that I have watched, the tactic is predominantly the same. Five drives and a kick for position on the opposition line; a short kick over the line to try to get a re-start; or a spiralling high kick to put the full back under pressure or the winger to try to out-jump the opposing winger for the ball. In the absence of Craven and Gilmore, we seem to lack any kicking game.

Posters on here talk about lack of ambition from the Board and argue we need to buy the ground, go out and get an investor and improve the match day experience. Do people seriously think the Directors are not looking for sponsorship and investment to improve the club’s fortunes; and have a wish to attract bigger crowds. I am not sure that being able to sell a few meat pies and pints on match day would improve our fortunes much. If the ground usage is so lucrative, why would the Council want to sell it and where would the Club get the money from to buy it? The benefit of owning the ground is being able to borrow on the back of that - I think that is where our problems started in the past when we had to hand over the ground to the Council to meet debts.

I enjoyed watching both the Toulouse game and the Newcastle games this season. The first being one we perhaps could and should have won; and the second that we could have lost in the last ten minutes due to complacency after being in control of the game. I certainly did not enjoy watching yesterday’s game.

Hopefully, we will see an immediate improvement in form in the coming games against Swinton, Barrow and Batley and maybe even a good home performance in front of a decent crowd against Featherstone. You never know, there may even be a few more positive comments on here when we soar up the league!!!

@sinbad - We shouldn’t be. But do you think we weren’t?

These performances have long predated John Kear's appointment. There were some dire performances at the end of Dennis Betts reign. John Kear is our 5th coach since Betts and there have been plenty of poor performances since Betts.

I think we should give John Kear time to try and sort it out.

The defining moment of this match was the break by Anthony Walker on about 20 minutes ( his second strong run of the set). Where were the half backs or full back backing him up or anybody else for that matter. Where were the players busting a gut to get to him. He looked both ways and ran about 25 metres before being tackled, where was the push.

You can watch plenty of Super League Reserves or Academy matches where that run would been backed up and a try scored under the sticks. You could back up all day get one clean break and score one try. Nobody backed up.

John Kear has said he will talk to Super League Clubs. He has put our players on notice. The Reserves is not working, not enough fixtures and not enough meaningful fixtures. Plenty of young players not playing enough who I believe would have backed up that break.

No waffling posts needed Frank I and most fans want to see good RL with 100% effort and writing an essay does not hide the fact we aint had this for a long time, is that too much to ask in your defensive opinion ???????????

In the meantime, Halifax have strengthened their squad by signing a SL player from Salford, Ryan Lannon.

The forward, who can play in the back-row or the middle, has made 97 Super League appearances during his career, featuring for the likes of Salford and Hull KR. In total, he has made over 100 appearances in all competitions for the Reds.

I only hope we are looking to invest money saved by the loss of Evans and Johnson on SL players not currently getting game time, whether it be as loanees or full signings. I know we currently have a dual reg' agreement with Rochdale but quite frankly, which of our players would Rochdale want!

No complacency, simply beaten by the better team.Always excuses here- injuries, the referee etc.Now it's complacency.Just my opinion MT.We still lost whatever the reason.

@mick-george Totally agree Mick. We all want to see a good game and 100% effort in every game, but most fans would be happy with a winning performance.

I am certainly not defending the totally unacceptable performance against Dewsbury, but hoping for an immediate reaction in the coming games; and a return to winning ways.

I actually don’t believe that the game itself is as good as we watched at Naughton Park in the 70’s and 80’s, but we probably forget the poor games we watched along the way. Having said that, as a life-long fan, I also remember enjoying games in the 60’s, when we were a less successful team.

Hope that was brief enough for you.

I can only assume they were both fit after having listened to Kear’s comments after the game which implied as much.

@sinbad - I have no disagreement whatsoever that the better team on the day won. But I do believe that attitude and preparation were part of the reason for that rather than to simply believe Dewsbury have more quality. Just my opinion, but I think if you don’t select your strongest team and then lose you leave yourself open to accusations of complaceny!

Lets hope JKs phone calls to SL Clubs bear fruit, a bit doubtful at this late stage, but you never know, an injection of enthusiasm and a bit of organisational quality, would not go amiss!

A bit of a strange comment to come out with though,in public. That he's getting on the phone looking for players.Obviously borne out of frustration but a bit inappropriate perhaps.

Or maybe, Sinbad, it is astute man-management in making players realise their places are at risk and, if they really are complacent, they need to change their attitude now else Kear will drop them.

It could turn out to be the kick-up-the-jacksie some need.
