At least we won the second half for once!!!

Serious questions need to be asked about the coaching I think if we are messing up in attack as often as we seem to: think about the home game against Dewsbury and the bombed tries we have seen this year.

I suppose a positive is we didn't see a capitulation but that was certainly a game we should not have lost.

At least we won the second half. Is this progress? Can we forfeit the rest of the games this season and just get it over with?

Glynn, what makes you think Marwan Koukash has any interest whatsoever in buying the club? This frequently gets trotted out after defeats, it’s not going to happen!

I never heard Smith mentioned in commentary today. Perhaps we should let him go at his age? Also I have never known Craven have such a quiet season as this. Is he not gelling with Lyons? Another disappointing loss especially with their weakened side. If Tyrer had been kicking goals we might have won. Is the captaincy good for Owens? His worse season for a while. All ifs & buts. As soon as Lawton came on we got more into the game. He is our most dangerous attacking player yet use him sparingly. He will be a big loss next year. We will need an alternative plan. I know he does not do that much work over the 80 minutes but he can be very effective & takes 3  to 4 players out of the game when he has the ball in hand.

At least Oldham lost again and they still have matches v Toulouse and Featherstone to come, so we are fine now.

How many of that Dewsbury team today could you say you knew?

I think the Half-Backs really need to be questioned (and I presume it will be the same HBs next year?)

Smith went off at half time and didn’t come back on. Thought we had a few players who put really good shifts in (Farnworth, Baker, Tyrer, Grady) but just not enough of them. Goal line defence (or lack of it) and the sheer number of handling errors the main reasons we lost today. One bright spot was Daniel Hill who looked really sharp when he came on.

4 tries to 3 for us - a stronger bench and a stronger second half performance.  Some credit to the coach to make attempts to address the points viod in the second half in game after game so far this season.  In the final analysis, maybe the two penalties are the difference, once again, between two weakened teams.   I have watched some of the strongest Widnes teams since 1995 struggle to win at Dewsbury - it is never an easy place to go at any time, especially perhaps when you have half the squad playing half fit, and can't name a full 21 man squad before the late drop outs!  We just can't buy a win at the moment, but we must keep the faith!

Wasn't it mentioned in commentary that Smith never came out the second half? It was only last week that everyone was saying how good he has been at loose forward!!! Fans can be fickle sometimes.

Played 16, won 5, lost 10 drawn 1. In the Championship! 3rd placed Halifax next week, and with it being a home game, if they give up like against Batley it could get painful to watch. Unlike Batley and Dewsbury,  Halifax are actually a half decent side. Good to have fans back but I have taken zero enjoyment from this season.
