Attendances must be becoming a concern for the club. 2,500 yesterday is a very poor turn out, albeit the poor weather and dreadful performances in the previous 2 games. I'd say around 500 were from Oldham too.
Widnes public not interested in second division rugby. The team would have to be quite dominant and winning every week to draw half decent crowds at this level.
Oldham at home v Fev drew 1660 so their investment plan will need to grow a bit!
York don't even bother to count their crowds but are seen as one for the future!
To be honest I expected a drop in attendance after last week's poor show but we managed to avoid that at least. I would say that 500 from Oldham is an over estimate .
@sandgroper my guess for Oldham would be 500-600 one of the best away followings we have seen from a Championship side. 2 blocks in the South Stand virtually full.
Last week I would say we had approx an extra 150 fans in the North Stand for the little stingers. The actual drop in Widnes fans was significant even though the attendance was higher. However with 2 poor performances plus 2 games at £24 each within 5 days won't have helped. The fixture scheduling does nothing to help Championship clubs. For me weather was OK for RL, if its too nice people will want to go out for the day. Thought it was decent RL weather.
This is true but isn’t that the same for every club. SL clubs are attracting less than 5,000 for games, a midtable championship team that has been dreadful for years is hardly going to pull bigger than 2,500.
I'd say around 500, they were in Spoons from around 12 ish as well yesterday, so were here nice and early. We rarely see away numbers at this level and it was nice to see, as well as contributing a tidy amount to the club coffers.
Apart from ourselves who go the games and who see it on social media who else would no there was a game on ? New fans aren't already on our social media so all we do is preach to those who already go ! Posters in pubs or shops can't cost the earth surely ?!
Attendance didn't surprise me- 2700 last Good Friday too.
Biggest disappointment was we didn't have a home game for a month after the Warrington game. I reckon we would have got over 3000 with the momentum.
Good following from Oldham- shows the value of a feelgood factor.
We really need to market the hell out of the 3 home games in June (no football, not summer holidays) otherwise I feel we will be looking at 2000-2500 for the rest of the year as there isn't a great deal to appeal to anyone beyond the hardcore.
Our hard core is about 2000, very few teams bring many fans - I expected Oldham to bring a crowd, which thankfully they did.
only other notable crowds will be bradfraud and fax
that’s just the way it is, without a benefactor we have to cut our cloth accordingly - hence our small squad
Personally I went against Barrow and travelled up from Andover for the weekend. I went to the Town centre and Tescos had nothing advertised that the game is on. How difficult is it to put a few posters up in places to say when the next game is happening? The marketing is very poor and I do not think the club are doing enough. I do think a lot of people just prefer the razmataz were there is an atmosphere. Unfortunanetly not many like to watch when the away fans are a minibus full. Probably Bradford will be the only team to bring a decent following.
