@wrlfcefc1989 I totally agree about gossip and rumours in a small town like Widnes, but it does not mean that it is all true or there are reasons for the gossip and two sides to every story. If you are correct in your and others view of Finney, either the Directors are not aware of the serious concerns or are aware of them and turning a blind eye or happy to accept them as rumours and gossip with no foundation. I would suggest you send your post to the Chairman of Widnes and ask for his comments.

@cuerdley-viking .. and all of them, including Sheens, have been written off as useless on here by a few posters.

Hopefully, we can bring in a coach who will quickly turn things around and get all (or most) supporters behind the team - there will always be a few constant critics.

It doesn’t look like an appointment will be made any time soon. As long as any delay is for good reasons eg to widen the market, then perhaps we should get behind the club and the interim management arrangements.

Agree fully behind the club as we all want the best results possible. Rather them take there time to get the right person than to get someone like Francis Cummins or Purtill standard coach. Pascal needs a coach with passion 🥖🥖🥖👍

The club should be actively trying to recruit the best coach we can get

Not waiting to select the best option from whatever Tom , Dick or Harry decides to apply

You're right but we are talking Widnes here........ 🤔

Finnigan

Purtill

Betts

Cummins

Cullen

Sheens was looking good until he did a Lord Lucan

Funny how the Widnes failures seem to be doing ok at a higher level:

Purtill, who walked out for a job with Hull in SLand still there

Betts, not doing too bad as Head of Rugby at Newcastle, who are full time and likely to be in SL before Widnes

Cummins, placed in impossible position following sacking of Betts. Now Assistant Coach at Wakefield in SL

Sheens went of his own accord for unknown (?) reasons. Now in NRL.

I wonder when Finnigan will turn up in the coaching team at a SL club?

..... and everyone of them was criticised on here, some more than others.

It would be good if we could bring in an experienced coach who could bring some leadership, change and success on the pitch and offer some stability to the coaching position at the club.

You're right Frank, its more than funny, its bloody hilarious

Even funnier is that Betts is doing well, last time i looked they where below us in the league, not bad for a full time side.

Purtill and cummings are assistants for a reason and that is they are incapable of being a head coach another "I see no wrong post" Cuerdley.

Don’t want Denis Betts or Francis Cummins to return here, whatever they have (or haven’t) achieved elsewhere.

For me, it’s a simple case of “once bitten twice shy”.

That is the reason Sheens left,it's a well known fact.

He left because of a disagreement over his stats guy Jamie.

He left because he didn't give a crunchie or have a clue about the championship. Do you know the reason why he came ?

Finney was the Lonely Leaders right hand man who stood by and backed up everything that he said, he should be nowhere near our club end off. Before you ask how do i know I will reveal. i was one of the fans who took the opportunity to sit in a meeting with them both. Everything that Jimmy said and was asked was backed up by Mr Finney, even questions he answered on his own where lets says no where near the mark.

As for Franny, I went to watch the squad train just when we signed the pensioner scrum half ( his name i have forgotten). I sat down with Franny and asked him a few basic questions about the game and he was totally clueless.

Frank that's how i have formed an opinion on those two would you like to declare how you formed yours.

I just have a view Mick. I make no defence of Cummins. Just saying that he was thrown into an impossible situation at Widnes and failed. You clearly were able to grill him on his coaching knowledge and he failed your test too, presumably based on your extensive coaching experience at a high level. Someone at Wakefield obviously has a higher regard for his coaching abilities than you do. Perhaps you should advise Wakefield of your incisive knowledge about Cummins.

Your view of Phil Finney is very clear, seemingly based on attendance at one meeting. I guess that you vigorously challenged both Rule and Finney at that meeting. Finney will be forever tainted by his link with Rule. I don’t know whether he was complicit with and aware of everything that was going on at the Club under Rule’s leadership. I see him as someone who played a key role in keeping the club going, when we were in danger of going under. Presumably the current Directors do not share your view. Again, have you advised them of your inside information, other than through negative comments on here?

Mick, I am just a supporter who has enjoyed watching Widnes for many years, through good times and bad times. I don’t think SL is the be all and end all of everything. I just want to enjoy going to a game and seeing the team competing on the pitch, win or lose. If we can win a cup or get promotion along the way, that would be great.

I think we agree that we need a coach who can get the best out of the players on the pitch, whether that is O’Brien, who has the technical qualifications, but limited experience; or someone like Duffy, who has coaching experience in the Championship; or someone who has not been mentioned yet. I am prepared to accept that Finney and the Directors have the best interests of the club at heart and will make the right decision. Hopefully, the new coach will turn things around and supporters will get behind him. Maybe you should offer your services as a consultant on the appointment.

I was told that he needed to stay in the country to gain a UK citizenship hence him taking the job.

That's correct, he needed a job to get his visa extended so he could qualify on residency for UK citizenship

Liam (Here's an Interception) Finn....

PF was good at bringing players through. Undoubtedly a number of SL, Championship and L1 players came through under him. But it is a world of difference from running a club financially and strategically.

Just read that Danny McGuire's future as Assistant at Hull KR is uncertain, worth talking to at least?
