From what I gather from the posters who went to the game, (which I missed), we didn't lose because of JK's tactics, but lost through our own errors coughing up possession. Yes we are not easy on the eye, but we should have been able to hold out for a win.
Many posters seem to have a negative view of Lyons ability based on past performances, rather than his play this season, where he seems to have held his own and indeed, if assists were ever a thing in Rugby League he would have several try assists to his name, so far.
I agree though we might still need some cover in Gilmour's absence, as that could be 12 weeks (according to Tom, apparently) or 6 months as speculated on here. JJ could have covered if fit and may yet do, if there are no obvious loanees to bring in!
Looks like we are going to have to hope for winning, if unattractive rugby this season and hope that wins and the confidence that comes from them, allows for a bit more expansiveness, down the line a bit. Halifax will provide a good test, I'd like the win box to be ticked please!
However, it was Lyons' pass that Grady ran onto for his try. Lyons ran across taking the three makers to his left out and had Owens following Grady up, which got their centre committed. Meaning that Grady basically had one man to beat, which he did well. Yes, they were down to 12 men but there were five potential tacklers from Bradford who could have stopped Grady.
I had a different view on that try - I thought it was 100% down to Bradford's obsession with Lawton. Lawton was dummy runner at first receiver and Bradford had three of their middles lined up to try and tackle him, but Brad England, who was nowhere near the play-the-ball, lost the plot and came charging in from the side looking for a big hit on Lawton. When the ball went out the back England's move had left a huge gap and Lyons only had to make the right choice to feed it to Grady for a walk-in try, with Patton completely wrong-footed as he tried to choose between defending two men in that big gap.
Hi, I had a look on line and you are absolutely right about Lawton (memory not what it was and all that).
Again though, if we go in numbers we do better. You can see their centre come out to meet Owens, with the gap then being left for Grady. You are right though, if Patton had chosen to line Grady up, Lyons could have gone himself.
All the best,
Surely that is how 'moves' are applied. The whole idea is to use players to draw the defence and open areas for the hit man!
Twas ever thus!
Vinty often didn't bother to tackle the obvious but waited for the striker! He just read the move where others didn't.
Well Bradford have beaten Toulouse at home - no one saw that coming, can we do the same ?
Totally agree Sandgroper. I didn't see Karalius play, but wish I had.
I was just annoyed that we stopped running to create the options and made it all to obvious for Bradford.
Enjoy the Halifax game
