If this should be on the General RL page, by all means move it, but as you mob will be involved, I thought it right to post it on here.

I don't know if any of you have heard summat similar, but.............

I was told this week that "Blackpool. won't be in Blackpool next season, coz the stadium isn't available."

As I say, I was only told this, and have seen nowt in writing, so..............

Your comments please!

The Football League Season starts early next year due to the World Cup in Qatar being played in November / December ...so I'm guessing (although not released yet) that Blackpool are at Home that weekend.

The EFL season starts July 30th next year and ends late May 2023, due to the World Cup in Qatar.

All professional domestic Football will take a months break from mid November to mid December whilst the World Cup takes place.

@widneslatic absolutely positive seen its at Blackpool...all clubs can ask for an away fixture due to ground commitments anyway ...plus its the current season so next year's fixtures wouldn't even be on the agenda now ..fixtures aren't generated until well after the previous season being completed

Opening day Football fixtures run in 2 year cycles (2 Home, 2 Away and vice versa)

Blackpool played Away on the opening day of this season and last, so regardless of what League they're in, they're are due to play at Home next season.

Next season's plans have been brought forward due to the season starting early next year.

If the World Cup was in the Summer like it normally is, there wouldn't be any issue, but it's not, and the Month Break in November / December is causing a lot scheduling headaches.

@widneslatic not least for the slave labour used by the Qataris eh ?

a simple solution in the case might be to bring forward or delay Blackpool’s first  game by 48 hours.

Why do Blackpool have to move their fixture about?

Surely they should get "first dibs" on their own ground 🤔

@widneslatic I didn’t say that they have to move their fixture around. But, if they did not only would the get the revenue from their home match they would also get additional payments and revenue from the Championship weekend. From a financial aspect it would make the ‘a few bob’.

i don’t see the issue as being one that can’t be resolved to the benefit of Blackpool FC and to the RL Championship community.

If it was any other game in the season, I would tend to agree with you.

But opening day fixtures are pretty much  "sacrosanct" in Football.

If Blackpool remained in the Championship, there would be a "slight" possibility of the game being played on the Friday Night, but that's a long shot, as Sky tend to open the EFL season with teams who have just been relegated from the Premier League.

Sorry, you’ve lost me. Are you saying that if Blackpool stay in the Championship, the they will be 100% guaranteed to be playing at home, against a club relegated from the PL and the match would be shown live on Sky ? That seems a bit specific for next season when we are just about a third of the way through this season. Anyway, even if it was the case, stranger things have been known than Sky showing matches on Wednesday or Thursday evening.

All I was saying is that there seem to be alternatives that have plenty of time to be worked on.

All you need to remember is... regardless of what division Blackpool end up playing in next season, they are scheduled to play at home on the opening day of the season.

Sky Championship opening night fixtures for the last 2 seasons have involved teams who were relegated from the Premier League

2020/21 - WATFORD v Middlesbrough

2021/22 - Bournemouth v WEST BROM

We won't know what the Sky fixtures are, until they release their picks for the early part of the season, early next Summer.

Now if Blackpool get promoted to the Premier League (not outside the realms of possibility), then the ground may be free because the Premier League season doesn’t start until the following weekend...

Headingley is being lined up as a shock venue for the Summer Bash after the RFL confirmed it would not take place in Blackpool.

The governing body confirmed the annual event, which has been held at Bloomfield Road since its inception in 2015, would be relocated for the 2022 instalment.

The reason for the move hasn't been specified but it's understood to relate to the start of next year's football season, which has therefore meant the venue isn't available. The English Football League season usually starts the first weekend of August, a week after the date for next year's Bash.

Similar issues are thought to have resulted in other prospective venues being unavailable and as a result, Leeds Rhinos' Headingley ground is being lined up as the new location for the event next year.

One source told Rugby League Live that the RFL had informed clubs of the possibility of a Headingley relocation and though other options are being explored, there was a general belief among clubs that the event would end up taking place at the West Yorkshire venue.

That would prove to be an ideal location for many fans geographically, though Blackpool has proven to be an incredibly popular home for the event over the years.

Fans have welcomed the seaside resort due to its nightlife and close proximity to the centre, though fans could instead take part in the famous 'Otley Run', featuring many bars close to the ground, as well as Leeds city centre.

It comes after the schedule for the 2022 season was confirmed, with the Championship season set to start on January 30th. The Super League schedule has yet to be revealed though it appears highly likely that the Rhinos will be away the weekend of the Bash, which will take place on July 30th & 31st.
