Great result, not conceding in the second half either. Is it fair say Finnigan was crap?

Was Finnigan playing ?

Another really good win, looks like we have a team that is building in self confidence. Just like I posted last week, I’m really looking forward to the next game 👍

Although it was a tremendous team performance Craven deserves a special mention for his generalship, kicking, tackling and of course his try. Hats off to JK for pulling the team together in quick time. I had my doubts about his early praise for Bent but both have proven me wrong. I think I even saw Bent pop out a pass today! Batley's first loss in nine. As their coach admitted on Radio Leeds Widnes played their slope better than they did. The slope decided the game : once Batley failed to get three scores ahead in the first half a Widnes victory was nailed on. Batley barely touched the ball in the first twenty minutes of the second half, conceding three tries. It was nail-biting when they regained a bit of momentum but we held our nerve well and Edge's late interception length of the field try was the icing on the cake.

A textbook away display to beat Batley. I thought the try just before half time would be crucial, but Widnes controlled the game superbly in the second half.

Farnworth is head and shoulders above everyone in this team now in my opinion, and keeping him has to be a priority.

Thought Johnson went well, and certainly think Bent's defensive contribution has been a factor - especially in the success of Lawton through the middle too.

Interesting to see Batley fans blaming the ref. Some weren't happy with the disallowed Gilmore try.

I think farnworth is loyal and we should try to sign him up. After next season with the possibility of going full time or a hybrid squad made up of full and part time players we can offer him a decent contract and he will stay

I listened on the radio bbc Merseyside and Lawton seems to be playing well at prop alongside farnworth

with Dixon out for the rest of the season I guess edge is the direct replacement

So it would seem that the Kear "revolution" is real and not just "new coach bounce". Wasn't at the game so can't comment on how we played, but as many have said, wins at Batley are pretty rare, so we must have played pretty well. Kear clearly brings a wealth of experience and commands respect, from the playing squad, many of whom are unrecognisable from their performances during our long losing streak. He also keeps everyone's feet on the ground, no outlandish predictions, every success needing to be earned through hard work! Hopefully he'll get the chance to strengthen the squad which should enable us to be a top 4 team in 2023, who knows he might even steer us to an unlikely playoff spot this year!

Hard to see how we can pull back six points on York or seven on Barrow with only seven matches left, one of which is Leigh away. But at least we are building something positive and I think with the right recruitment we should be looking to make a genuine challenge in 2023.

Batley by 28..... what do I know?

It was a surprise result, that's for sure, but I think the win was gained due to JK's knowledge of how to play the pitch. And over the 80 mins, was well merited. 5 tries to 3 was probably a fair reflection, we handled their pack well, which not many have this season (apart from Leigh).

We now owe Barrow one, next week. They are beatable, but will be a tough ask with Ritson's pace on a big Headingley pitch.

See you all there,

Up the Chemics

Paulie xx

Did he ? Well I never.

just wondering why Finnigan got a couple of mentions given he has nothing to do with the club anymore. I think most of us would prefer to talk about the good stuff that’s going on, my old ball bag.

A win at Batley is always a very good result and we'll done to all.

I have at times this season been a little concerned about our goal kicking % and had gilmore's try been allowed ( for once the correct result for us ) , yesterday's 40 % return could have beven the difference .

I know that sport is made up of iffs and buts , however , I think that next year's recruitment should include a high percentage goal kicker in one of identified positions , possibly at half back if Smith retires.

Back to the win, and I thought our forwards held up very well against a pack who have been better than most and very consistent especially on their home pitch and have been for a couple of seasons.

I feel sure that John Kear will have made it clear that people are playing for contracts and his style of man management seems to be having a positive effect on our squad.

Excellent performance and onward and upward against a Barrow side who are also in good form, in what could be the game of the summer bash.

The team and coach have rightly been given plaudits for this win.

From listening to the game on radio merseyside, could I also praise the few hundred supporters who went to Batley, particularly the 40 or so who left the stand in the second half to stand in the rain in the open behind the Batley line giving plenty of vocal support to our players.

Well done to them, one and all...

Yeah he did Roy my old sausage.. 2012 I think 😜..

It's a discussion forum and seen as the turnip finningan had his hands all over this team for most of this season so far.. he ruined our play off chances so early which could have been so different under a good coach like sir John Kear.

I think you are right MT. It’s a positive step forward for us to even think about but if we carry on improving our form until the end of the season, build up the confidence and bring in a few goos players over the off season we should be a hard, or at least harder, team to beat

Be very careful DM, he's obviously some sort of self appointed message board Police Sergeant
