The General Election

So Sunak has thrown down the gauntlet, and there'll be a general election during a certain tennis comp, and just before your mob and mine lock horns again.

I'm looking forward to seeing this apology of an administration being convincingly shown the door, by the British public, and........

Hopefully, the "Let's "Dis-unite this United Kingdom Party" will also receive a caning from those voters who live north of Hadrian's Wall.

As i bash this out, the (soon to be ex) PM is addressing the Blue faithful in East London, but...........

It's not those people he needs to convince, coz their vote is guaranteed, it's...........

Mr and Mrs Joe Public, and they're gonna need a lot more convincing!

My constituency is one of those being changed, and I'm now in Worsley and Eccles South.

It's gonna be a roller-coaster six weeks, before we head to the polling booth, but....................

Change is coming, and not a moment too soon!

And so Rishi is advocating bringing back National Service if he's elected eh?

Strikes me as a(nother) desperate ploy from a man who knows he's beaten, but........

How say you mes amis?

Of course it's laughable, and will never happen, but the people who vote for these c**t* don't think so. I'm sure they think there's merit in it.

The sooner these austerity wielding sh*t houses are consigned to the dustbin, the better.

And so the silly season starts...

What would be interesting is to keep a track of all the pledges from both parties (The others don't really matter lets be honest) & see how many the party that gets in actually keeps, or even gets close to.

Sunak's last time was inflation (mainly out of his hands) and the small boats. Not sure what stuff was in previous election manifest from Tories.

This time he's said about the triple lock & national service.

So far Starmer mentioned NHS waiting times being driven down amongst other things.

I think almost all of them won't happen & most of what will get said in the next 5 weeks from both will just be empty promises.

The Govt should call an election on a Thursday to take place the following Tuesday. Let's face it, we don't need the campaigning, it's all BS.

What kind of insane person is going to buy Sunak/Tory pledges after 14 years of non-delivery/chaos? You'd have to be properly f*cked in the head.

What kind of person is going to welcome Starmer, who can't explain what he's about and prefers Tory turncoats to established Labour MPs.

Just get it over with and move on. We need the PR in this country ASAP, this archaic system is killing the place.

Eight candidates in my "new" constituency, and of course, on of 'em is from Farage's Family, which should dilute the blue vote even more than previously.

I'm now in Worsley and Eccles, even though I'm in the same house. Have any of you been "moved" similarly?

Last throw of the desperation dice with a promise of NI reduction from Sunak and Co, but.......

I'm confident that even he knows deep down, he'll be departing number ten with a P1, L1 record in general elections!

Farage's Followers now one point ahead of Rishi's Rabble in the opinion polls!

Is that an even bigger boost to Starmer's prospect of taking the keys to the most famous front door in the land?

We'll know in three weeks' time, but...........

Cautious optimism reigns here!

Just watching "Politics Live" on the Beeb, and it looks like a certain person who broke lockdown laws, could now be brought in on the "Let's stop the Farage bandwagon" campaign!

Another desperation fling from an administration with now only just over two weeks left before it's long overdue demise!

@spelly Don't worry about the result. It's just the scale of it. Labour are 1/100 to have the most seats!! Only 1/25 for a majority...

The bookies have the same price of Evens for the Conservatives to get between 50 and 99 seats as Labour are of getting between 450 and 499! Can't imagine when/if the opposition have ever had less than a 100 seats ever?!

I'm quite ambivalent about whoever gets in, but I don't think it would be good for the country if the seats were split quite so much, giving Starmer an absolute free rein on any policy he wanted.

Could look something like this according to the bookies;

Labour 480

Cons 90

Lib Dems 40

SNP 25

Others 15

Like you say, it's not "If we win" any more, it's "How many will we win by?" instead.

Sunak will be obliged to fall on his sword, with the Blue Brigade looking for yet another leader.

Will a Labour landslide be all that bad, after fourteen years of the other lot? Bring it on I say, and........

For the cherry on the cake, let's hope the SNP take a caning north of the border, meaning the "I" word will be sent permanently to the dustbin!

Biased moi?

I've been a Labour Party member for around half a century, and I reckon a fortnight on Friday, I'll be feeling pretty (very?) smug!

So Spelly, I know you're an avid Labour supporter and I respect your loyalty to the party. So I was just wondering if you could clue me in on the things that are going to be so much better under Captain Flip-Flop ? Because he seems to me to be a very weak leader who can't make his mind up about anything, and if he does, it's usually followed by a U-turn. This country is in terminal decline, for example: crime - completely out of control and neither the government or Dibble could care less. NHS - on it's knees, gripped by woke and EDI all at the expense of patient care. Immigration - completely out of control but I guess Flip Flop will deal with that by letting anyone come here so that's sorted. And I just wondered where all the state school places are coming from for the kids who won't be able to go to private schools any more ? Now don't get me wrong, the Tories have had a long time to do something and they've made a pig's ear out of it. The election will be a deserved electoral bloodbath for them. So over to you mate. And just some background, my parents believed that they should always vote Labour because "they lived in a council house". Unlike a certain Labour deputy leader, they didn't have any trouble remembering which one.

Yes, any party that has a massive majority means its open season for Starmer to come up with any plan he wants & for it to pass, no matter how daft, incl. allowing 16 year olds to vote.

All governments should have a decent and effective opposition IMO, and this next lot won't have that. FWIW with the country being in such a state and long memories I think this next Labour government will rival the 14 years the current lot have had, or possibly stay in even longer.

I see the SNP are at it again with the Independence talk.

It's gone from a majority of the vote, to a majority of the seats now. Given that this is a general election about many things (Health, Housing, Cost of living, War, Drugs (Up there), dodgy politicians and many other things) why are they so insistent on each vote being about Independence when it seems it is the least important it's been in about 10 years. Bunch of clowns that lot.

There were 59 seats last time in Scotland, down to 57 for this election. They currently have 43 seats out of the 59. So they're saying they could lose approximately a third of their seats and yet that's a mandate for a vote for Independence in their eyes. Moronic.

Politicians never quite get the 'blame game' right.

These Tories have been blaming the Country's woes on Covid and Ukraine, completely forgetting that we were in the doldrums before any of that happened; 10 years of austerity, zero growth or investment, stagnated wages etc. had done for this Country before Covid even came along. That seems to be have been forgotten.

Once the election is over, if they get the beating the polls are suggesting, they'll blame it all on Sunak. Obvs, he's not blameless but this shambles is bigger than the last 18 months.

I doubt whether Labour will revolutionise the place but you can't blame people for wanting a change after the worst 14 years of Government in living memory. Any change will do.

The only people who have done well out of the Tories are the Tories themselves, and their mates of course. They made sure they did well out of Brexit, out of Covid, they're even doing well out of the election date. Parasites the lot of them.

So now Sunak has the (alleged) betting scenario on his hands as well eh?

More bad news for the very soon to be ex-PM!

This shambolic administration is going out in style, and how I'm enjoying it!

I've waited fourteen lonnnnnnnnng years for this!

Pack your bags Rishi, coz the removal van will be parked in front of the most famous front door in the land on Friday week!
