Eating & drinking out

The price of this is absolutely criminal these days.

Went to a pub in Widnes near me Friday night, £50 for a round of drinks for 7 or 8 people.

Went for a curry last night in Widnes, 6 of us birthday night out, £250. For a curry and a couple of beers!

I get that people's overheads have doubled or whatever in the past few years. But my wages certainly haven't. This cost-of-living crisis has turned me into a right mingebag, I'm always looking at how much stuff costs. And it's anti-social, used to walk in a pub and buy a few well-knowns a drink here and there, can't do that when it costs £6 a pint.

The pub we were in Friday was a quarter full by 10pm. Friday night.

And the Indian on Sunday was empty, and the food wasn't a patch on what it used to be.

How much longer can this go on? I'm 50-odd so I'm done with my flashy nights out. How do these kids afford to go out?

I’m 73 and CAN remember getting a few pints, chips and change from a ten bob note but those days are well gone. Loved our Friday and Saturday nights out and then the Kingpin and the Koch I NOR and remember my mother saying I wasted money and I suppose that’s what it’s like nowadays gpo. The youth don’t know any different it’s their generations prices! If we go for a meal these days it’s the Brewers Fayre where there are always some offers on and the drinks are quite reasonable.
if you think about it’s sensibly gpo you have now turned into your dad👍👍

Well, youngster Martin, my local Green King pub, the Dog and Partridge, approx 200 yds away, does a good "Pensioners special" of 2 courses for £5.50.

From there I then stroll the same distance again to my local Village Institute where a decent Wainwrights bitter costs £3.20 a pint. I reckon to get my annual subs back each month by drinking there....

@sunny

Thanks Sunny, made me feel younger.😂 Most of the pubs we drank in as “kids” are closed now but still have great memories of our weekend sessions. Happy days 👍👍

Seems a bit extreme if you just had a curry and two pints?

Did you have starter's and chips etc...

Where did you drink and where did you eat ? Drank all round the country and never paid £6 for a pint.

Go the Hammer for a pint of Madri. Or the Crown for a pint of Neck Oil. You don't need to go all around the Country, Liverpool Road will suffice. Pennies change from £6.
