The Lions!

'Ornits (and Mazey) been on a raiding trip over the past couple of days.

Yesterday, they signed half back Rob Fairclough, and today, prop Gavin Bennion has penned a deal.

Fairclough never took a backward step, despite being small in stature, which made him very popular with the Lions' faithful.

Bennion is a real powerhouse, and more than once last season, played a full eighty, which is almost unheard of for a prop in today's football. I reckon he could've done (a lot) better than going to Spotland, coz he's defo too good for League 1.

Both will be missed, and I hope Stuart Littler has replacements lined up.

Bennion is definitely too good for the 3rd Div from what I've seen, they must be offering good money!

I thought he could have done a job for us.

Maybe quite a few transfers will start to happen now....

Frankie Halton has now jumped ship, and is off to Fev next term.

This guy has genuine SL qualities, and at POR, may well be dining at the top table before long.

Gav Bennion had 3 options.  Widnes, Featherstone and Rochdale all offered him deals.

Where he ended up will tell you who offered him the most money.

Yes, Andy Mazey who was at Swinton.  Also 3 previous Directors from Swinton.

Thanks for that, understand now. Spells still with the lions, hornets can not afford him

Yeah mate, players, directors, chairmen, coaches, are temporary, but as fans, we can't / won't / find it impossible to walk away!

Good news signing wise is that Jack Hansen (who I currently sponsor) has penned a new two year deal with us.

I can't honestly see any team below SL kicking a ball in anger again until after Santa's been and gone, coz it'd be financial suicide if they / we did.

We've now signed Nick Gregson for 2021.

He was on loan from Leigh, and scored our penultimate try against you mob in the cup-tie.

As regards Fairclough and Bennion, unsurprisingly,  there's very few of the posts on our Family page wishing 'em well in their new environment!

Will Hope is the latest to commit to the Lions, and has now penned a deal for 2021.

He's the guy who suffered a horrific leg injury at Sheff, just 16 seconds into the first league game of the season before last, when the ambulance didn't turn up, and he had to come back on the coach, and taken to Hope Hospital.

He battled back to fitness,  had a great 2019, and he's now with us for another twelve months at least.

Skipper Rhodri Lloyd is the latest to commit to the Lions, by signing a two year deal.

Leads by example, and will more than likely be in Kear's Crew come the World Cup.

Official statement from the club this evening that we won't be entering the Autumn tournament.

How many teams have put their hands up for it? The RFL were looking for sixteen, but I reckon the actual figure will be well short of that.

Stay safe one and all.

And Batley have said that they want to take part, but I don’t think their wil be enough wanting to play to make a competition, they’re going to need at leat 8.

Our latest signing is Sam Brooks, who (amongst others) has your mob on his CV.

Top acquisition for us for next term, and a more than decent replacement for Bennion who followed Mazey to 'Ornits.

Also, on a different matter. it looks like the Autumn Cup, or whatever it's called, is dead in the water. A min of eight clubs are needed to make it viable, and it looks like it's gonna be (well) short of that figure.

Brooks never really had an extended run here, but I think is a decent Champ prop.

The Autumn Cup is just riddled with uncertainty, so no wonder so many have swerved it..

The Geronimo that I know about was a great leader and fighter. Don’t know anything about the new Swinton signing except he is a Kiwi.
