Brian Carney was saying last night that SL might finish a week early, cancelling the last round of matches, and instead have 6 teams in the play offs. Is this to give Catalan a chance of making the playoffs?
Seems very late to change the rules, but we are talking about the Rugby League!
It's because the last round of fixtures are pointless and won't change anything, I guess. No point in playing out meaningless games in the current situation.
RL is a great game to watch but very tough physically on bodies.
There will be players who are being asked to turn out for games without a proper break to recover, who will welcome an early end to this season
The last round of matches might not be pointless for Catalan, Leeds and Hull, who could get into the top 4 play offs and winning the final match could mean they might or might not get in.
They we’re saying on Radio Merseyside last night, that the clubs are meeting on Monday and will probably vote for the season to finish early after tonight’s matches, and increase the playoffs to 6 teams instead of 4.
They are also likely to scrap the rule saying you have to play at least 15 games to qualify for the playoffs, then Catalan, who have only played 12 games, can play in them.
Super league is going to end early with 2 matches on Friday, then a top 6 play off, with the club finishing 7th on standby. They’ve got rid of the rule saying you have to play 15 matches, so Catalan will qualify.
