Salford Move

Salford and Wakefield hung on forever with architects impressions of what the new stadia would be like, and the powers that be bought it all.

Widnes club and Council, rightly or wrongly, tried to comply with the game and the law regarding the playing venue, all seater etc, and were laughed at when others ploughed money into the teams.

The Council has been criticised for their support, but the town would be much poorer without the team and its efforts to encourage community involvement.

Thanks GPO, that kicks my suggestion into touch!

Under the old SL licensing criteria of 2009-2014, Salford wouldn't have been allowed into SL using this ground.

I'm not bashing the stadium, it looks like it had a decent refit in 2017. But it is small and it is an indictment of attendances.

It would be interesting to get Spelly's view on Swinton sharing a ground with Salford!

Personally, I wouldn't share my used toilet paper with 'em!

Moor Lane, whilst nearer to Swinton than Sale, is not in M27, so from me, the answer is NO!

It's soooooooooooooo easy for non Lions to say "Swinton should share with S*****d!" But do you share with Wire? Are FC and Rovers at the same venue? Do Hunslet co-habit with the Rhinos at Headingley?

We've moved many times since Station Road had an argument (and lost) with the bulldozers, but until we're back within the M27 postcode, nowhere will be "real" home for me!

And that's from someone who doesn't live, and never has lived in Swinton!

Trouble is Spelly, and no disrespect to Swinton, there's absolutely zero chance of The Lions ever  moving back within M27 until the game itself halts its alarming slide into self destruction.

It simply isn’t financially viable.

As for rival teams not sharing... Well, Hunslet may not have co-habited with Leeds Rhinos at Headingley, but Bramley certainly did.

Saints also shared our place during the 2011 season whilst the finishing touches were made to Langtree Park.

1) Agreed, and I doubt that it'll ever happen, but there's no charge for dreaming!

2) Correct, but they have their own home now,

3) Correct again, but as you say, only till the paint dried at their new gaff.

If we ever did (again) share with the Pinks, I'd still go of course I would, coz I've been to 'em all, since that fateful day, in '92.

As a matter of interest, does anyone on this board know how many grounds that I've watched the Lions host games at?

I'll start you off - Station Road...............................................

As a help to the above, there's more than one (or two) where there's only been the single game there!

Fair do's, and you're right, it costs nothing to dream ...Just thought, it would be more viable (and less of a hassle for fans) going to Moor Lane, rather than travelling to the other side of Greater Manchester (it might even bump your crowds up in the process).

Right... Swinton's homes.

Gigg Lane... Sedgley Park... Willows... LSV... and, Sale...

Carrying on from the above I've (with a little help from mates) totalled it up, and.........

I've seen us host games on FIFTEEN different venues, and some of you lot moaned when you had that short spell over the bridge!

Let's see how many you can come up with, and here's a few clues...........

There's three more soccer grounds apart from Gigg Lane, and one we only played a single game there. Also, there's four others, where we only went the once. Two of the RL ones (apart from Station Road) are no longer there.

I'll leave it open until tomorrow, and brownie points awarded for any Chemic getting ten or over!

Maine Road correct mate - We played Saints there in a cup tie, but Edgeley Park is a no-no I'm afraid.

So far between you, you've got Gigg Lane, Sedgely Park, The Willows, LSV, Sale, and Maine Road. Station Road of course, meaning there's still eight to find, so ........

Here goes with a few clues. Still two soccer grounds. one of which there's now a retail estate where it stood, and the other has been tarted up somewhat since we played there.

Of the others, one is a yawnion ground, where we played only once, hosting 'Haven on a Friday night.

For the RL ones, two have since been flattened, one only soccer is now played there, but the remainder still host XIII.

Back to you mob!

Is Naughton Park one? I remember Swindon playing Trafford Borough at Widnes but I don’t remember who was the home team.
Can I also guess Burnden Park, Bolton?
