Sad to hear this. It shows the difficulty of keeping a Rugby League team running outside of the heartlands.
This really throws the cat amongst the pigeons !
league 1 down to 8 teams now ?
they will have to go to playing each other 4 times now, giving 28 games plus alone in the cc or maybe 2

It does indeed, the GB love of soccer is a hard one to break. London have been up and down and even when they are up getting supporters is a struggle.
But when our top SL sides are dependent on handouts from sugar daddies, or at least Wigan are, the game is not self supporting.
IMG selling it to TV won't change things unless the lower leagues get a better cut of the revenue.
Many teams in SL have sugar daddies - dire, stains to name but 2
that’s what makes it an uneven playing field for clubs like us
wait and see who goes next from League 1
without the lower leagues the upper ones will struggle
SL will continue regardless - they do not give a flying f about anyone else, they are so shortsighted
Real shame this one. But as said, so difficult even in the heartlands now for non-SL clubs, especially those clubs without a serious money man and/or a relatively small fanbase. I was hoping Newcastle would be there for the really long-haul. Sadly not to be. Where is RL going outside of SL ? I'd love to know. I wish someone had the nous and vision to try and organise some massive TV deal, a breakaway or a way for the game outside of SL to grow.
