So Cornwall will have a county wide RL team by the look of it.
I wish it all the very best.
doomed
@glynn Good luck Eric, but let me give you some sobering words: PSG, Scarborough Pirates, Blackpool Borough, Carlisle, Chorley Lynx, Kent Invicta, Nottingham City, Gloucester All Golds, Ottawa, Toronto. Probably a load of others I can't even think of. Cornwall certainly is a hotbed of rugby - Rugby Union that is. I wish him all the very best with this project but it's only going to end in tears. This will be another failed venture which just cements RL as a sport that reached the limits of it's appeal in the UK decades ago. Those limits being towns and cities in Yorkshire and the north west. Fair play to him for trying, but I can guarantee the Daily Mail will be all over this when it goes belly up with a massive, full-page spread of another failed RL venture.
Well at least Spelly gets another ground to visit !
not sure it’s the best location, ground pretty basic, interesting they are going to use mainly Cornish players - that’s a steep learning curve as west Wales will testify
Well it is much better that a new club is being born in the UK rather than travelling to play in Canada or the USA, but only just. Using local talent is also laudable but to choose a location at the farthest possible distance away in Cornwall is ludicrous. I guess Mr Perez is not familiar with travelling times by road in the UK. Travelling to there in Summer is awful. A few years ago I travelled to Lynton in August on a Friday by car and it took over 8 hours & that is well short of Cornwall. Most teams & any supporters will have to fly to make it feasible but then so much more expensive. I wish them luck & they will need it in barrowloads.
Does this mean that Toronto could reappear next year under the guise of Orkney Wasps? Did the RFL actually give any thought to the viability of this "expansion" and the impact on other L1 clubs? Is the intention to re-locate back to Ottawa, if by chance they reach SL? The game is becoming or perhaps confirmed its reputation as a laughing stock.
@frankg I see Coventry are now re-branding to "Midlands Hurricanes" obviously in an attempt to have a much broader appeal. Can't blame them for that but again, another club that is wasting it's time in an area where the interest in RL is pretty much zero.
@carpet-crawler I wonder when they last had a hurricane in the Midlands ? Still I suppose it’s better than Black Country Drizzle 😁
You never know, there was a Typhoon/Tornado in Widnes a couple of weeks ago 🙄.
But, like some have said, I think Cornwall is too far away. You would get hardly any away fans going, unless you got a flight there, you would have to stay overnight, something some fans would do for Magic weekend or Wembley, but not many would do it for an ordinary league match. Especially teams in Division 1, who don’t have many fans anyway.
Perez would be better off putting his money into starting a club off nearer to the North of England .
Yes I think Bristol would have been a better option, noises were made a couple of seasons ago about a team being based at rovers ground - think it may have been a joint operation by Gloucestershire and Oxford to replace them
but in the end they both withered on the vine
Other than one man's perceived ambition (again), can anybody outline the compelling evidence that expanding the game into Cornwall is going to be a huge success and a massive step forward for the sport?
Where is the genuine hard evidence that there are literally thousands of would be fans just waiting for the game to be taken down there?
And, when is the RFL going to show some leadership and backbone, and at least stop to ask the question "Why"?
Does everything regarding the long-term future of the game have to continue to be written on the back of a fag packet?
I despair.
If you didn't laugh, you'd cry.

There's no evidence whatsoever, other than the fact they play Rugby Union down there.
It will be another one added to the already long list of Expansion failures.

How many fans do other clubs in that league get? Let's face it the game is in an awful position, no more so than League 1, where even traditional "Heartland" clubs have very few fans.
Give it a chance, you never know. If it doesn't work it doesn't work, but they'll hardly look out of place. Where is the genuine hard evidence there are fans anywhere just waiting to go watch a game of RL?
The reason why there are so few fans is because the sport has been mis-managed for more than a generation.
And, quite understandably, those fans have long since deserted the game.
Why would anyone bother when Clubs have been overlooked and ignored with all hope and ambition being taken away because of senseless and pointless short term decisions such as this.
And to what end? For who's benefit is this expansionist agenda being driven?
The sad thing is, that the product is being diluted in front of our very eyes, yet nobody in Authority can see it.

Nail on the head there pal 👏👏👏
Another thing which royally boils my urine is the way various people talk about Catalans & Toulouse as Expansion successes 🙄🤦
They were both well established French League Clubs, the only (really tenuous) "expansion" link was moving from the French League to the British League.
Every single true expansion move has failed miserably.
