SL attendances are up this season, last weekend they averaged 11,019, all above 10,000 apart from Salford 5,000 and Warrington 8,000.

Whereas Rugby Unions attendances are down over a 1,000,  to 11,290, almost the same as SL, yet you don’t hear or read about that, probably because all the papers and most of the TV is based down south.

But it would help if the RL media department put some reports out stating these figures.

Maybe, just maybe they deem the early season optimism and some standout fixtures as a reason not to shout about it after only 3 rounds  ...just a thought.

Mainly for the reason that when teams have all played each other once it is likely to settle and be a true reflective figure & if it drops from what it currently is they will look daft for shouting too soon, and get called out on the attendance figures in a couple of months.

I'm a fan of all sports and I don't remember ever reading much/anything about R.U attendances domestically really. Not sure why it is as important to you that RU is down as much as RL is up (Over the v v small sample size)?

There are many reasons why the 2 sports exposures are vastly different, but attendances that fluctuate 5/10% at the start of a season isn't one of them IMO.

when London play at home the average will fall drastically.

interesting and I agree with your view and perhaps the bbc may mention this, as they keep bigging up women’s football attendances

it has been a great start to SL but I hope this can be replicated throughout the sport

championship is probably the most competitive season ever and given the big clubs potential draw crowds could be well up - unfortunately this is due to West Yorkshire

You’re right it is to early to say, the attendances might go down, or they may not. But the RU figures are from September, 5 months, so they’re not likely to go up. Crowds down over 1,000, about 10%.
And I think it matters because you get pages of RU coverage in the papers and nothing on RL apart from the scores and the table.

last week there was 6 pages on RU in the paper and nothing on Rl, today the inside 2 pages were on the 6 nations even though there were no matches this weekend, and nothing on the SL matches.
if you think that’s fair coverage, then that’s your opinion, which your entitled to.

I didn't say it was fair coverage at all, in fact my last point specifically states this isn't the case. Merely pointing out domestic attendances aren't the reason for the imbalance.

I would also say that the coverage of domestic R.U. isn't way O.T.T., just RL is under reported. The other thing is RL needs to try and build itself up, not point out another sports (Perceived) flaws.

Internationally it is, as stated, but the fact they can get more fans (Prob paying a few times more in terms of ticket prices) for an autumn friendly than RL can for a World Cup final is part of it.

The other thing is interest. Millions will read about the 6 nations and be able to tell you about teams/players/results even as a passing interest. Not many will know/care about Wigan's WCC win sadly.

Just out of interest, where are the SL average attendances at now?

After last weekend’s games, the average SL attendance was 9,930, but HKR didn’t publish their attendance figures for their games against Leeds and Warrington.
As suggested by Prisoner, London’s home games would bring the average down, there was just over 2,000 there on Sunday for their match against Huddersfield.

London’s average attendance for their 4 home games at 3,700

London wouldn't get huge attendances anyway,  but the fact they basically know they're getting relegated regardless won't help.

I read earlier that they had sold 60,000 tickets for the Harlequins v Northampton game.

Sorry missed your earlier post.

That was a good attendance, a bit out of the ordinary though, any idea why it was so high?

They had Jess Glynn(?) Singing and funfairs for kids, the attendance was just under 56,000, which for a one off league game is astonishing. Also, was better attended than last year's CC final.

They haven’t got a big crowd to watch the rugby though have they?
They’d gone to see Jess Glynn for £10-20, instead of about £100 if you went to see her at a proper gig.
