Widnes travel to second placed Cardiff as the group test themselves against one of the Championships best following an emphatic victory last time out
The Widnes women’s season continued to gather momentum last weekend, as the team ran out emphatic 50-6 winners over Castleford Tigers, lifting the team up to fifth position in the Championship table.
Widnes was in total control from the start, with the Vikings forward pack causing destruction all afternoon.
Starting Front-rowers Hannah Whitehead and Tracy Peet provided the platform for a convincing victory, whilst Jenny Moss was a thorn in the Castleford team, making numerous line breaks throughout the afternoon.
Some slick ball movement by Aimee Wood and Hollie Jones found gaps in the Tigers defence for Full-back Hannah Quirk and Winger Alise Gindra to grab the opening two tries for Widnes.
Castleford responded with a try of their own, however in the stroke of half-time Loose-forward Jenny Moss hit impact Front-row Ellie Reid with a flat ball to send the Vikings in at half-time 16-6 ahead.
The second half began and the next try was crucial. The Vikings dominance continued and the combination of Aimee Wood and Hollie Jones continued to cause chaos.
Young Centre Marnie-Lee Kelly opened the scoring in the second half, continuing her impressive break out season.
Another fine set play followed as Winger Evie-Price Horrocks finished in a tight space on the left Wing and soon after Jenny Moss powered over from close range for a 28-6 lead, putting the game beyond the reach of Castleford.
Right Centre Juliet Porter was the next over, followed by Ellie Reid who grabbed her brace, a mirror image of her first.
Alise Gindra capped off the 50-6 victory, catching a cut out pass from Aimee Wood to finish in the corner to continue her impressive start to Rugby League.
The Vikings attention now turns to this weekends clash with second place Cardiff Demons, the Vikings most difficult opponents to date.

Head coach Dom Dean has made two changes to his matchday line-up that takes on Cardiff Demons. Front-row Vickie Grace is unavailable for the clash and is replaced by the returning Chloe Richardson, who features for the first time since round two.
After a number of impressive performances starting at Hooker, Lily Wilkinson drops to the bench and Sammy Traynor gets the starting duties ahead of this weekends game. Both Hookers have been stand outs for Widnes so far this season.

The Demons have been deadly in attack so far this season and are currently the highest point scorers in the competition with 228 points scored in just five league matches. They have averaged a staggering 45 points per game.
Last time out Cardiff put Oulton Raidette’s to the sword, defeating the Yorkshire club 64-9 and even more impressively knocked Super League team Featherstone Rovers out of the Challenge Cup earlier on in the season, running out 24-12 winners on the day.
The Welsh team have to be commended for their success in recent seasons, especially with the miles covered on a regular basis for away games.
The Vikings are the next team on the hit list for Cardiff, as they enter the game full of confidence.
Non negotiables for Widnes
It is clear Sunday will be the Vikings biggest challenge to date, with Cardiff running riot so far in 2026. Despite the impressive form of the home side, Widnes must concentrate on their own performance levels and defend as a unit throughout.
All of the Widnes back line scored at least a try last time out against Castleford with Hollie Jones and Aimee Wood producing moments of brilliance.
The attacking quality of Widnes can hurt opponents, including the very best and a high set completion will earn good field position and provide opportunities for the Vikings to strike.
Widnes must play the game in Cardiff’s end of the pitch and Aimee Woods kicking game will be crucial in controlling the tempo of the match if Widnes are to run out winners.
