Those saying play Owens straight away probably won’t accept it was the wrong call.

lyons never gonna be inventive enough

Owens, Tyrer & Farnworth not match sharp. Starting selection poor. Baker is never a prop. Tilleke is a much bigger unit & not being used  at all! Should be in for Bent who is very poor & far too small. Should be starting with Doro & Dupree & using Tilleke & Farnworth later. Those 4 have to be on the sheet every week. Smith is not doing much & neither is Lyons albeit behind a beaten pack.  We now know Holroyd & Bent were poor signings, not good enough. Fozzard plays 80 minutes but passes straight from the play the ball far too often.

Plays are known by everyone wingers take it up then 4 forwards then a kick. The ball has to be put through the hands & create overlaps with run arounds. For 10 years now we often start well then the forwards are tired after 6 or so games & form drops off. We need a creative hooker & half back very badly. It is all too predictable.

The honeymoon period is over, not that we beat anyone special in the opening games. The Halifax win  was just a lottery on a bad pitch.

I don’t know why he isn’t putting a hooker on the bench to rotate fozzard

bent, edge, Lyons well out of their depth in this team. Something needs changing but I doubt finnegan will be the man t do it

League table wise we are still 4th which is fine, however losses v Newcastle and Leigh would put the pressure on for the home game after Easter against Batley...

Said before the season the jury is out on the coach, been a bit of a mixed bag again, let's see where we are after that Batley game.

Surprised you were so far from the Knights today, especially as they lost badly up at 'Haven last week.

Am I being harsh by saying you should be doing better than letting Ford's Mob put 30+ past you?

Spelly.

No, I think virtually every Widnes fan will agree with that.

Sixty six points conceded in two games isn't great. Not at this level, especially.

Agree with many of the comments on here so far...............concern in all areas including team selection, form of players, tactics and the size and quality of both the pack and the backs shows how we are still way off the pace of the top 5 - where I predict York will comfortably finish.  If we get 6th it will be realistic with what SF has to play with.  Today, as in the last 2 games, we were outclassed by a fitter, faster, stronger and more mobile side, especially in the forwards.  Proves our pack, as improved as it is on last season, is still too small in this division.  Structured, yes, but you need quality as well to score points, or you just end up defending all afternoon - which we did. Today without SMITH it would have been 60, but there is almost no creativity from any position!  SF is having to select  4 forwards on the bench most weeks to give them the rotation to stay in the fight for 60 minutes against these bigger, faster and more mobile packs.  This is where we are sadly lacking, giving no platform for the halves (who are not good enough anyway) to create points against all but the weakest sides.  But remember, this York team is well coached, has 4 SL forwards the size of Adam LAWTON, a SL and Aussie halves combination and pace to burn in the backs............everything we have not!  We are still well off the pace.

It was a nothing performance and a poor game. No enthusiasm or life about us whatsoever.

A lot of comments on the pack but surely up to the backs to do something as well. We created nothing. No excitement, no threat of breaks, nothing. On the only occasion we broke through in the second half, we coughed the ball up next play because no one wanted the ball or had a clue what to do with it.

For Owens to be caught out of position for the fourth try was schoolboy stuff. Not sure whether he feels he has to be in the line as captain or what, but shouldn't happen. Would be tempted to try Owens at six as Roby deserves his shot at one.

Fozard was trampled over on multiple occasions, not sure I've seen a middle defender been targeted and knocked down so many times. The lack of interchange hooker on the bench makes it a bigger issue (though wouldnt like to see Gregory v Pauli!)

The yellow card was a farce but didn't impact much. They scored a few lovely tries, Edwards the centre was excellent.

Seems things are back to normal after the positivity of the first few weeks. The spirit and drive from the Halifax game a distant memory.

Lawton's try though - brilliant. Maybe he could play stand off to help the size issue!

In fairness to OWENS, he was out of position because he had to make a tackle whilst covering for others who did not appear to be in a position to defend the play - a mark of how we were pulled around the field by a team who had better situational awareness than we did. Immediately after that tackle, York knew where our full back was and chipped over the top with  runner on the next play before most of our tired defenders has even got off the floor..........with no full back at all by then...........better coached and more skill than our lot, I am afraid.

@jdgsport Lawton would probably be more effective than Lyons but would raise a few eyebrows if selected as stand-off🤣

@mckeeverviking I don't feel like Lawton gets anywhere near as much of the ball as he ought to.

@jdgsport I totally agree but is that down to not playing to our strengths as a team like up the middle stuff! Who makes the calls with regards to how we’re going to play each set? Is it smith/lyons or what

our pack where the same size as yorks backs, we need to be putting it through the hands and moving the opposing bigger packs around more. I’m by no means a great rugby tactician but it’s like we have no plan b. Smiths been around long enough to change our attacking plays. Finnegan doesn’t seem to have much about him in this regard.
