Ft 50-12
SL side and a friendly yes but we look very underdone for the start of the season in my opinion. Attack in the final 20 was the same as always but tackling and kicking game was also below par.
I just watched the highlights and it looked pretty woeful, anyone who went the match can comment? The crowd trouble is embarrassing but understand emotions running high. I seen Fleming made a few mistakes not trying to single him out
Twitter is full of videos of the crowd trouble so there a few bans likely!
Hope Wolfie survived? 😇 (We have form!)
The "crowd trouble " video is literally the cringiest thing I've ever seen ...led by some pophead by looks of it and a few harry potter extras ..I've had more threatening looking pot noodles..in other news looked terrible ...Fleming showing few times exactly why he shouldn't be FB ...moment that summed up it up was Lyons coming on and then within two mins threw an interception pass .
Perspective is ...played a full time team that actually went very strong in selection ...even 2nd half had likes of hartill..Thomas..Hayes etc coming on ...as if we had won the game it would mean nothing in terms of the season ahead ..
Also other news Coleman has stated they'd hoped to have announced a signing tonight and hopes that it'll be announced over the weekend and by sounds of it it's a full back and a significant signing (in his eyes) ..been rumours/murmeringe could be from Queensland cup club...also talk it could be a youngster on season loan from a SL club...so probably neither of them 😂 ...but if it is a youngster I'd only be happy if it was someone like Declan Murphy at KR (was at Salford) that lad will most certainly be a star in the future ..
Anyways hopes and expectations at our club are normally very quickly squashed by the signing coming from crusaders or Swinton ...
We shall see soon enough
I think both clubs will find themselves fortunate not to land themself fines from the RFL after that tonight.
It was a decent crowd for a friendly and a good following from Widnes - clearly the stewarding in the ground wasn't up to scratch.
Warrington fans (one in particular) were goading throughout and he should have been chucked out before things escalated.
The pint throwing (each to their own but I'd never queue for ages to buy a flat overpriced pint and then lob it) was going on from both sides, I even saw coins and eggs being thrown into our end!
Leaving the ground was worse, mobs of chavvy Warrington kids looking for trouble.
It was certainly a moody atmosphere towards the end and I'd be surprised if we see this fixture in pre-season again. My son who loves the rugby and goes everywhere was panicking about leaving that stadium tonight.
I remember going to watch an away game at wire around 2002 and getting chased by big mob back to train station, police were there but still fighting kicking off everywhere. In rugby league we shouldn’t see this but people act up in numbers and probably wouldn’t act like that 1 on 1. Fines for both clubs bringing the game into disrepute
Did Matt Fleming win a make a wish or something? Because how did he end up with that No.1 shirt? Gonna be a very long season if we don’t get a proper fullback in…
@member151 it seems odd he was given the 1 shirt ahead of Maizen while he was still at the club.
@dan1 or Owens who has had the number 1 shirt for as long as I can remember. Not that I want Owens there but makes more sense then Fleming who’s hardly played fullback for us and clearly isn’t a fullback
@widiot Agree about the Warrington fan, it was just one fat drunk, who kept coming as far as he could to the Widnes end goading our fans, and the stewards just told him to go back about 3/4 times, which he did., then a minute later he would come back again , after about 5 minutes of doing this a lot of his mates joined him , throwing beer and other things at our fans, and unfortunately some of our fans started doing the same. If the stewards had done their job and thrown the first fan out, nothing would have happened.
I didn’t see any trouble afterwards though, when I walked round the front of the stadium to get back to my car
Just read that a 17 year old Widnes boy was arrested and a 17 year old from Warrington ended up in hospital after a fight on Winwick road after the match.
I think Fleming would have had maizens number and vice versa but the club was hedging their bets or already going through the process of releasing him but as TH said in his recent sit down with Mike that they had to follow a process and let certain people know first before fans.
on another note, Jordan Abdul’s shape is nothing short of a disgrace.
If you look at the gaffers post match interview with James I think you'll find Fleming had a great game ...
I'm actually dumbfounded and lost for words ...
