He would be an excellent signing if we could sign him.

Can't decide if this says he has signed for us or not!

@sandgroper

Just looked at the Whitehaven club site which confirmed he was leaving the club. One poster on their unofficial fans forum wrote he had heard Evans was joining us - no more than that.

@sandgroper as I know it I had two separate people I know..one a haven fan last week  say he was rumoured to be heading to widnes ..took it with a pinch of salt as nothing had been said from haven to suggest he was leaving as they did with king and Williams...then today haven have confirmed he's taken another opportunity elsewhere...as say don't know too much about him other than kear mention him ..yes only a rumour .yes maybe coincidence..but could very well be true

I watched a game he scored in and looks like he’s going to be an improvement from this season’s squad so that can only be a positive, hope with a good preseason he’ll progress and be a standout next season

On a side note good to see deon cross get selected for the knights

I like your optimism. I wonder why our "overseas network" never seems to pick up this type of player, with potential, whilst Whitehaven can?

I agree, I feel we were too insular with our recruitment policies: before anyone argues about cost, if Whitehaven or Sheffield can get players from Australia or PNG, there is no reason why we can't.

Where was he employed? The Cumbrian area has good jobs in the Nuclear industry and in a part time situation that matters.

Our supply of large employers who used to assist has disappeared.

True, that could be a factor, but it slightly baffles me that there are two big cities easily commutable to and we wouldn't be able to find something for someone there if they couldn't sort something in Widnes.

@sandgroper believe he was coaching within the clubs development squad so was probably earning more through that

And we are doing something similar with Craven & Owens, giving them skills for after RL. Our staffing levels are still low and gives us some flexibility I suppose.

Don't know what JJ's circumstances are but there should be ways and means even for small businesses to help out for sponsorship.

My memory is playing tricks on me (old age!!) but I can accurately remember that Harry Wells was 14.5 stone! My dad's comment was that he was as big as a second row - and he was!!! They played inside (Wells) and outside (Gasnier) centres on that tour. Wells took the tackles and Gasnier scored the tries. Happy days!!!
