What a waste of vip spending some of it on the coach.Whatever your opinion of Coleman I think we can all agree that money should be set aside for players only.As said earlier 22K doesn't go far but it will go even less far now.Early April is too soon to be handing out a new contract anyway.Could have waited til mid June at least, see how things go.
It's only a rumour the money was spent on Coleman but if it's true then I am sure members will not put up with that and withdraw support. This board is so bad at communication that it is damaging the club.

How do you try to sign players for next season if you don't know who your coach is going to be?
The big problem is the current way rugby league permits clubs to speak to players over contracts. You sign someone on a one-year deal, and by March time, when they might have only played one or two games, you've got their agents asking if they can have a deal for next season, if not they're talking to other clubs.
You know better than most, James, Players and their agents never stop talking to clubs.
In the case of Lannon, you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
What do we do with him? Say fudge you Bertie Big Biscuits, you're our player and you are going nowhere, or offload him for a transfer fee off 'The Millionaires.'
If we tough it out, then we have to keep paying him. If we select him to play, he won't be arsed.
Maybe it's time for the RFL (ha ha) to reel in players like Lannon, and suspend them 'til their present contracts elapse, without pay.
Paulie xx
Obviously the whole system is wrong maybe if super league stopped hoovering up everyone for academies and reserves it would even out the player pool because it's just not working for us but it's neither working in super league as they are all losing money so if they didn't run as many teams then players would filter naturally to championship and super league clubs would save considerable finance
@sinbad If we had to spend some of it on the coach its still money well spent. Coleman is the best thing to happen to Widnes for years.

Well if true he not turning up - he will be in breach of contract, so stop paying him and retain his registration so he cannot play for another team
We don't know if the funds from VIPS have been used to offer Coleman a deal or not. It would be nice to know. My personal opinion it should be used for players only.
IF Oldham offer a fee for Lannon, and by fee i mean over £10k I would definitely sell. If not i would ask him to see out his contract until a suitable and permanent (not 2 week loan) signing can be made.
Contrast this with Foz who it seems has been playing on with a broken hand until JJ is fit enough to play. Again if true credit to the lad!
The other worry is we have been told more players, 2 specifically are coming in. In Flash's article he quotes Coleman as saying if we lose Lannon we don't have anyone coming in. I wonder why/whats changed.

This is what I would do.

I believe a signing they had agreed with from overseas had a last minute change of heart. Coleman did say they are working on two others for this season and next but he wasn't sure how long away they might be.
Not really sure where the VIPS/Coleman conspiracy has come from. He was already coach, would have been here for these months anyway, he signed a new deal. Hard to see how that's eaten up £22k.

That is a very loyal player and still has played very well Foz. People like Lannon are a disgrace not showing up or letting the coach know his circumstances, and if i did that at work I would be sacked and punished. Need to stop paying him and the RFL need to sort fines for these type of things. I want him gone from my club.
@begg After being sacked, what other punishment is there? Believe me, just not turning up for work is not a reasonable reason to be sacked. IF he hase refused to play he is definitely in breach of contract, if he's asked for time off to look after a family member and the club has granted it, what has he done wrong? Until the club say what the circumstances are, we don't know.
The game of rugby league is in a total mess from top to bottom and the dual registration and loan system is a symptom of that.
No wonder fans are turning their backs on the game at clubs below the "top table" (who are desperate to hang on to the Sky money}, when fans have no idea of their teams from week to week, never mind year to year. The RFL offer no support or interest in teams below SL and anyone watching SL games on Sky would have no idea that the game exists below that level.
The game used to be proud of its links to local communities and people would support their local team. Why would new fans support a team like Widnes, with little or no chance of getting into SL
As for Ryan Lannon, perhaps the Club are in discussion with his agent and Oldham and not yet in a position to comment. If the rumour is true, as already mentioned, he should be reminded that he has signed a contract with Widnes and the Club will not allow him to join another Club this season, without a fee being paid or a player swap.
