Realistic Signings for 2026

We need a specialist winger to replace Williams/Bennison who can score well into double figures.

A big 2nd row to replace Condon/ Lloyd

Another prop so we don't have to call on back rowers to play prop if one of the front 4 get injured.

With Abdull, Lyons, Gilmore, Fozzard, JJ, Gregson and Hall all signed I don't see the point in signing Mellor for a season when the budget is tight and we need forwards and a back that can score.

Could it be one of our former players from Crusaders....they seem to be having issues atm?

Overall, recruitment to date suggests a small improvement compared to last year.

What I am hoping is that we have at least another 4/5 coming in of a good quality and we see the best of the Australians with a pre-season under their belt...

@dan1 Ince and butt are easily good enough. Williams either wouldn’t have been brought in or would have been 3rd choice had ince not suffered a season long injury. Obviously if he’s now crocked we do need one but if he’s fully fit we only need a 3rd string winger as a back up.

Seen what happened when we had 3 starters with Dixon, can’t keep them all happy

Ince is injury prone but we could utilize other squad players on the wing like edge or bring one in on loan if needed. We need another prop or two as it’s a position that we struggle with every season as injuries occur

Well if we have the fev guy signed that’s 4 decent front row, feel we are light on back row - langtree, mcwhirter,Lawton, hall, crusaders new boy ? Roberts And gregson

backs just about ok but a bit thin, injuries could really test us

feel we need another centre/ winger at minimum and any news on matte gee ?

@scouseviking55 How many tries did our outside backs score last season? Williams was top scorer on 12, and he only played about half the games. He was the only player in the entire squad in double figures. The team don't score enough points, especially the outside backs.

@dan1 one man up the middle doesn’t create enough chances for the outside backs, hopefully we will see a change in tactics but we also need to be able to cope with opposition big forwards

Surely, as one of the best - probably the best in 2026 - supported teams in the Championship, our minimum aim should be the play-offs, with the ambition of reaching the "Grand Final"; that is if the Club wishes to continue as one of best supported teams.

The Club has got to show ambition and supporters need to be convinced to buy into that ambition.

The fixture list will be interesting and may well skew the table. You never know what the incompetent RFL will come up with. Hopefully, the Championship Clubs will be consulted and need to agree any fixture structure. Fans want to see competitive games,

@frankg

Apparently the RFL/clubs can't agree on just how the fixtures are going to pay out !!!!! Salford's future is still in the balance, with Fev and Fax also uncertain atm.

@dan1 one bad season doesn’t make it permanent.

Go on rugby league project

Ryan ince last 3 seasons (prior to this year) all double figures in 2024 he got 17. I doubt Ince wouldn’t have scored all of Rhys Williams tries if he was playing and not injured, if not more

mike butt last season (prior to this year) double figures - got 13-  so more than Williams got this year.

Your making a mountain out of a molehill, wingers scoring tries certainly isn’t our issue and if they’re not received the right service they won’t get over and service this year was especially poor

@scouseviking55 backs scoring tries or lack of is one of our main problems. We very rarely score more than 30 points in a game and if we concede more than 3 tries, very often lose as we can't score enough points.

Williams got 12 tries in 16 games last season.

I see Brett Bailey has signed for Whitehaven. It will be interesting to see how he goes next season.

With regard to the fixtures - another rfl farce

The format should have been decided before the SL team announcement -

it begins to stink a bit again, it’s simple every team plays each other once and extra games decided by draw - therefore every team plays each other once ( appreciate home/away will make a difference )

but at least you have a chance to beat the top team

@scouseviking55 I don't think it's our main problem but Dan has a point in that our wingers and centres aren't people that beat players on there own we have no one with a step or huge power majority of our backs tries are team tries keeping butt and ince won't change that and that's why bennison was a breath of fresh air !!
