Ray French

It has been reported Ray French has died aged 85. 

I remember him coming to Widnes with I think it was Dave Markey with Frank Myler going the other way to Saints. I was sorry at the time but Ray turned out to be very good for Widnes. At Saints he was used mainly as a defender but at Widnes he showed his footballing ability, with  his sleeves rolled up looking for work. So much so he was picked for Great Britain while at Widnes becoming a dual international in both codes of the game. Later of course he became the commentator for the BBC for rugby league games for many years.

RIP Ray.

Totally agree there - I only saw French in his last seasons but never gave up
