I always enjoyed pre-season games. The AB Cup was before my time but the 7s and other games were great and seemed to serve a purpose. We seem to have been burned by injuries in games in recent years and that has clouded judgement. I recall Moose running out at the Wigan 7s once, he was huge and imperious and it was a fantastic spectacle, and a great tournament. I'd be all over a modern equivalent. But risk averse wins these days I guess.
Agree with the above posts, there weren’t many more than 1,000 at some of the league games last season so to expect people to go to a game v Batley in deepest darkest January slap bang between the middle of two pay days in the freezing cold with zero away support - be lucky to get 500 there.
Yes Widiot, mid January and Batley is a poor selection for any testimonial game.
But I sincerely hope there’ll be many more than 500 as Danny deserves a decent crowd to show our appreciation for his time here.
