It reminds me a bit of when Reilly and Kirk left and another prop was about to sign but didnt.
I can see the aim, after one of our highest profile players leaving 12 days before kick off, announcing someone exciting is about to sign off sets that blow. The problem is, if they dont't then sign it doubles the blow. I assume we wouldnt announce something in advance normally, but with the timing of Maizen leaving being so poor, thats why we decided to.
@dan1 yet another disappointing close season and supporter base fed up before the first must be a new record even for us

In all fairness to AC, he got shafted by the 'Incoming' prop, who 'played us' to get a better deal at Oldham. Rambo was released for the funds for the signing, and Kirk left (no loss for me) as he travelled with Reilly to training.

@pauliewalnuts I'd say neither were a great loss ...Kirk looks the part and is actually less powerful than bent ...Reilly never got anywhere close to his Batley days after his knee op and still hasn't
@pauliewalnuts Sounds like the same thing again then. I wasnt aware the exciting prop signing to replace Reilly chose Oldham as it wasnt announced who it was.
Call me daft, but why dont we say OK you are contracted to the club. We will find a replacement ASAP and as soon as we do, we will agree to a release. 12 days before kick off and after a full pre-season and even the kit launch surely thats fair is it not? Say 4 to 6 weeks later someone signs on the dotted line, we seem to do it the wrong way round.
Same with Lannon, we should have said you can sign for Oldham IF Lawton signs for us. Nothing wrong with that for players under contract. Ended up getting Lawton and Condon in afterwards, but its not the point.
I think now we have put ourswlves under pressure as not only are the fans expectimg a new signing this week but an exciting one.
@dan1 your right Dan we always seem to come across as a nice club to the detriment of ourselves
why don't we put clauses in for players who leave for super league that a fee must be paid £10/20k which would help us with the next signing?
we let Dupree go Salford then they sold him for big money !! We need to toughen up a bit with our dealings if Oldham wanted Lannon who is under contract pay up rest of his season and he's yours ?! Why help clubs who have money ?

Something like that may well have happened, none of us are privy to what arrangements were made between the 2 Clubs involved. The Board will never tell you what financial transactions take place.

@pauliewalnuts They would have said he's moved for a small fee if that was the case with Lannon. They released a statement saying they knew nothing about him wanting to sign for Oldham at first and that he hadnt been turning up for training.
Saying the club has received a fee if applicable is common practise without revealing the exact amount. It sounds better rather than someone walking out of a contract.
Maizen would have just caught his flight home anyway,no matter what stance the club took.
I heard the player we we were going to sign has gone to a SL club.
@farnworth-viking well if that's the case we all may aswel accept Fleming is the number one ...you'd hope it'd be connell but it's clicky towers so that would be the end of that
Connell back at Salford by Easter I predict
Think we can all agree after today we are desperate for a fullback…
JO still can’t catch and Fleming was non existent only thing I noticed him do was go off injured. (unfortunate for him)
assume we won’t sign one and it will be edge or Connell there next week, however with AC at the helm he might play Liam bent there.
We could do worse than Flanagan of Rochdale.

The lads on the Widnes podcast made the point (or at least alluded to it) that the club paid Maizen throughout the winter months only for him to walk out on us ten days before the season opener. You don’t have to be a cynic to think that stinks.
