As referred to in the Oldham posts many are suffering bad injuries and I would place much of the blame on the ridiculous tackle ruling these days. Players are being twisted and manipulated in tackles where their feet are unable to move, thus twisting knees and ankles.
The referees are supposed to decide that the progress has stopped and call 'held'. This they fail to do, preferring to allow the vertical wrestling to go on.
There are teams, as there always were, that set out to injure. Comments have also been made about the reducing number of quality half backs in the UK these days.
THe Aussie game seems to manage the tackling rules a great deal better!!!
I agree, it certainly needs looking at. I’ve never known so many injuries in the game across the board. The tackle / ruck is almost akin to UFC these days.
As an aside it also makes the game a boring to watch - there surely can’t be a single supporter who enjoys watching the tedious wrestling at the play the ball or ‘winning the ruck’ as they paint it as.
Certainly maintenance of brass is often forgotten but in the past we have suffered on Rochdale's and Wakefield due to lack of proper maintenance.
But being realistic SL clubs having to fund £1.5k extra spends the Financial Director will be looking for savings and grass is green and flat no matter how well its been maintained so I would be surprised if that budget has survived!!!
