This signing has me scratching my head a little when I think the squad is crying out for a specialist 6 and more forwards. Past few seasons we’ve had lots of backs but the ‘competition for places’ hasn’t exactly resulted in our backs being top of the try scoring charts… personally think Dixon and Ince first choice with Brookes as back up… perhaps Butt and Dixon seen as cover for FB but Edge has that place for me… 🤷♂️
All down to the coach I guess.
Edge is our most penetrative back but its whether he's more effective from FB that matters. He can pick his spot from fullback which makes him a dangerous attacker.
Personally I don't understand why we need 4 wingers because I prefer a back up halfback if one of them gets injured. Plus need 2 more back rowers and a strike centre. Anyway suppose the coach has plans as who plays fullback if Jack Owens is injured? I prefer Edge at fullback and get a strike centre. Coleman may think already a few loan back rowers and halfback from Wigan, Saints and Warrington?
The thing is you can have the best backs in the world, but playing behind a pack going backwards and allowing the opposition forwards to steamroll down the middle of the park, they have little chance
agree don’t see where butt fits in, unless he is fullback and Jack is out as one of the eight
Ryan Hampshire 28 has not yet been signed up at Wigan. I do not know if he would be interested but pretty sure he would do the job for us at 6.
I heard we could be signing Langtree a second row forward from Barrow , he lives I. St Helens, and has changed jobs and hanr got time to travel to barrow.
@farnworth-viking he's certainly contracted to barrow for 2024..not heard anything new to suggest otherwise but I hope it is true because he's been unbelievable for barrow past two seasons...easily there best player last season up until he did his shoulder ..
@geoffw I'd have no problem with a year deal ..he's fit as a fiddle mate and an absolute workhorse..scores quite alot for a back rower aswel ...not sure what truth there is if any ...be bit odd tho after Colemans comment about not signing 30+yr old SL players n then signing a 30+yr old championship player
@cumbria-viking I think Coleman didn’t want to sign a mid 30’s SL player, who could be just coming to us to take it easy for a season and get some good money (Amor), rather than a championship player who (according to you) is still playing well at this level.
@farnworth-viking yeah us and SL dropouts of recent years most certainly don't work out very well

Agreed, apart from Matty Smith...
Max Roberts signed up. Good player let’s hope we get the best from him this year.
Yes agree there, missed a big chunk of season, but impressed when he played, all we need now is 2 back rowers and a 6, then glory days !
I'll be greedy & say a prop & 2 back rowers
