Grady was involved in everything! We used the 2 wingers well against a tiring defence.

I though Jack was vocal organising the defence.

Plenty to work on but a win is a win.

My heart said a win today but my head a defeat. Glad I was wrong. However l defended Walker against all the negative posts & he clinches the win. A great start! Well done Widnes! COYV!

I'm very hopeful that the win today will add a few more to next weeks home game.

Surely, everyone can now see that JK's squad are more than capable of a top six place?

Walker played well in his first spell, then came on again at a important time with 12 minutes left and played well again. Grady also played very well, and Dixon who made some good runs and caught every one of the 9 high kicks under pressure, York put at him. I was surprised York didn’t try and put some kicks to the other wing for a change, to see if they had any more luck with Miller

Only fault imo was Lawton at prop!

He is a talented player with non-prop skills - ideal as a wide running second row with maybe a licence to move his point of attack. Defences have to cover him wherever he plays.

That is why we need to sign a replacement for Johnson. So we have enough props that Lawton will not need to be moved there on a regular basis.

I think Sandgroper is right here, I much prefer Lawton at Second Row. On Sunday, Grady had a good game and gave York a lot to deal with, but that wasn't the same on the other side. I like Davies, and Wilde, but with having Bent at Loose we could do with having more in attack, which Lawton would bring. Gilmore would use that threat well.

The props went well so I don't think we need Lawton to play prop.

Cheers.

@halfback-ragnarsson Grady played prop all last season so it's strange for him to in the second row out wide and Lawton at prop in the middle. Lawton is a superior attacking player so does the coach maybe think his defence out wide is lacking?. A strange one indeed.

Grady played prop when Finnigan was coach but rarely under Kear. Think JK sees him as a second row which his performances imo back up.

To be fair to kear if Lawton would of stayed on I think his second spell of the game would of been coming on at back row however we didn’t get chance to see that I think Lawton at prop is just a stop gap until we recruit another prop and get farnworth back in the side

We still have field and tilleke which gives us 5 props, so no need for Lawton to play there
