I see the latest position to vote for on the club website is Prop Forward. I have gone for King Kurt and Big Jim. But I was texting a friend, who asked who our worst prop was, I went for John Kite, he was only ever able to play 10-15 minutes before he was knackered and had to come off. My friend went for Ian Connor.

Not really one for picking on ‘worst’ rather than best. They played for the club which is more than most of us can say.I could’nt do any better.

Can’t help but think how Big Jim would have fared in today’s game. Maybe Saints v Vikings, BJ sent off, Walmsley carried off ?

Good bit of interactive work by the club, followed the various votes with interest, glad to see the last two weeks that players from further back like McCue and Silcock have got a chance!

The amount of fans who could pass judgement on those players can be counted on one hand. Likewise Mills, Shaw & Collier.
I voted for Sorensen & Shaw, could easily have thrown in Grima. Big Jim was a powerful man, but was suspended as much as he played. A great prop but not the World beater everyone makes out.
Paulie xx

Agreed Paulie and people also look back fondly and laugh off his dark side but he was a bully.A nasty piece of work.

It is an impossible choice tbh. There were so many that were ‘great’ for the club in their time, like Collier, Pike, Ramsey etc, but over a relatively short period.
Mills has contributed massively to the club as a club other than his time on (or off!) the field. I was living in Aus when he signed but my dad was a massive Widnes fan. His joy at having a prop like Mills was jumping out of his letters!!!! and his signing signalled a change in fortunes, under Vinty of course.

Was never a massive fan of Pyke myself, he never really fitted our style at the time, for me.Mike O’Neill used to cop it from the boo boys on the terraces when he was a youngster but he turned out to be a great forward and servant to the club.I think the older fans could’nt take to his style of veering off to an angle when taking the ball up.Hardly ever involved in fights or scuffles either, just got on with the game.I’ll vote for him as second row.

Kurt and iron Mike O’Neill for me
I don’t know how anyone can look beyond Mike, made his debut at 16 in the front row !!
Played over 400 times for the club and won just about everything possible, was a mainstay in some of our greatest sides

Agreed, Mike has to be in there somewhere.Same with David Hulme as well, even if Gregory was the more skilful ball player.

You’re definitely right about that: but I suppose I would rather have them on the list than the likes of Jack Owens or Joe Mellor who clearly aren’t in that category and have been put on because they are modern players.
