Widnes VIPs has revealed it has now contributed £30,000 to the club to assist with squad building.

It was acknowledged for its contribution in the re-signing of captain Jack Owens, who it was announced on Wednesday has signed a two-year contract extension.

VIPs is an independent not-for-profit organisation born following the demise of the long-standing VIQI Scheme which had previously raised substantial funds for the club.

The VIPs committee said: “We have been able to give £30,000 from your amazing donations, to the club we all love.

“We met with Widnes Vikings and discussed their accounts and other financial information they provided, to make sure we were happy with these before releasing our funds.

“I’m sure you will agree, this is a day we can all be proud of. We are grateful for your continued generosity in supporting our club in these hard times.”

Fans are able to join VIPs online, contributing a monthly fee of £5, £10, £15, £20, £25 or £50 via direct debit.

It regularly holds prize draws for members and next month is holding a sports quiz night at the DCBL Stadium.

Hosted by Steve Roberts, the quiz night will see former Vikings favourites like Gavin Dodd, Mark Smith and Danny Walker join as guests, together with ex-coach Steve McCormack.

Taking place on Wednesday 3rd July (7pm), the entry fee is £5 and tickets can be purchased via VIPs or at the club shop in Widnes Market.
