Widnes secure the services of Latvian international Footballer

Alise Gindra links up with Widnes for the 2026 Championship season

Widnes are delighted to announce the signing of Latvian international Footballer Alise Gindra for the 2026 Championship season.

Blessed with electric speed and devastating footwork, Alise will strengthen head coach Dom Dean’s options in the outside backs and will go straight into contention to make her Widnes debut against Bradford Bulls away from home this Sunday afternoon.

Still only 19 years old, Alise currently plays her club football for Huddersfield Town FC. Her impressive development within the sport has earned Alise 15 caps for Latvia under 19’s and her senior debut for the national team.

Now as her Football duties have come to a close for the season, Alise makes the switch to Rugby League linking up with Widnes Vikings.

Speaking on her move to Widnes, Alise went onto say “The girls have made me feel so welcome and I am excited to make my debut when that opportunity comes.”

“I am nervous, but equally excited to pull on the shirt, I have put a lot of work into my preparation to make sure I am ready to help the girls convert some moves into points.”

Alise was asked how her involvement in the sport began, Alise added “My step dad plays for the Widnes Masters, I went down to the DCBL stadium to join in with their training.”

“Whilst participating in a masters training session, I was approached by Dom and the girls, before I know it I was invited to training and I haven’t looked back since.”

Widnes head coach Dom Dean expressed his delight of Alise joining the club, he went onto say “I am really excited to see Alise pull on the Widnes jersey for the first time, she adds another dimension to our back line with her athleticism and sharp foot work.”

“She has speed to burn and an elite mentality, I have been impressed with her eagerness to learn and the enthusiasm she brings to the team.”

“Alise has been hugely impressive during training and I look forward to her development within the game.”

On behalf of Widnesrugby.com and everyone connected to Widnes, we wish Alise the best of luck for the remainder of the 2026 season.
