Hayes and Taylor impress as the Vikings progress to the next round
It was a convincing afternoon for Allan Colemans team who marched onto a 50-10 away victory over Dewsbury Rams in the 1895 Cup.
The two teams met for a second time in a week and it was Widnes who moved through the gears, showcasing their fire power in attack.
Warrington youngster Leon Hayes was magnificent all afternoon. The lively playmaker controlled the game throughout, exploiting the Dewsbury defence time after time.
His speed and quick thinking around the middle created chaos all afternoon as the Vikings posted a host of impressive tries on the scoreboard off the back of his craft.
Head coach Allan Coleman took the opportunity post match to praise a patient Kieran Taylor, who was awarded with his first start since the Thatto Heath Challenge Cup game, after spending time on loan away from the club at Rochdale.
Coleman went onto say “He was brilliant, we know what he is about and this was the perfect game for him to come into the team.”
“It was vital I gave Kieran an opportunity, and he has now given me a headache.”
“He showcased his power, his defensive strength and he is a real handful with high energy, which is ultimately what we want.”
Taylor capped off a fine performance scoring two tries, the first crashing over from close range and his second producing a show and go off a scrum play eventually touching down.
The versatile Centre has put down his marker for a position in the starting 17 next weekend and it will take a tough decision to leave him out based on his form Sunday afternoon.
