Widnes fall to a 34-6 defeat to London Broncos in their toughest assignment so far in 2026

The challenges keep coming thick and fast for Widnes on their return to the National Championship. London Broncos was this weeks opponents who secured a 20-8 victory over Super League team Leigh Leopards in the Challenge Cup earlier in the season.

The Broncos squad is packed with athletes, including Emily Bell who is the current 2026 champion of the television series Gladiators and Becky Smart who is a Scotland international.

Despite the calibre of opponent, Widnes battled bravely in the middle of the field. Juliet Porter shone in attack and defence at Hooker, whilst Jenny Moss, Hannah Whitehead and Vickie Grace provided steel for long periods of the game.

The Vikings went in at the break 16-0 down, however remained spirited throughout the game.

Powerful forward Ellie Reid scored a trademark try crashing over from close ranger, however it was the Broncos who showed their class running out 34-6 winners.

Perspective is key

Despite being disappointed with the defeat, it is another competitive performance against one of the Championships top four teams.

Widnes have suffered a 24-8 defeat against Warrington, a 40-4 defeat against Cardiff and now a 34-6 defeat against London.

All three fixtures Widnes have competed for large periods with a determined mindset of keeping score lines competitive and a respectable.

All three teams listed have posted 70, 80 and 100 point winning margins against some of the Vikings Championship rivals who have numerous years of Championship experience.

The Vikings respectable points difference of minus 6 is testament to the character of the group and its resilience in the toughest of times.

Next up for Widnes is another clash with Challenge Shield finalists Warrington Wolves this Sunday at Victoria Park, Warrington.
