(Ray French signed for us in 1967 and finished playing in 1971, so within those dates). Ged Lowe another 1964 veteran who played on into his 30s switching from 6 to 13, as would have been Johnny Gaydon, if he had been selected in 1964! The player in the centre of the back row looks to me so like John Wood, did he have a elder brother, as I think John arrived on the scene much later(?)</blockquote>

Just looking at the team photo on the official site  alongside George I recognise George Nichols, Mal Aspey, Ray Dutton, Dennis O’Neill, Ray French, Ged Lowe and I think Jim Fitzpatrick  Maybe Alan Walsh is there as well I’m not sure  Anyone able to put names to the rest?

I think you are right Ceejay, I think he did start out as a loose forward. Tough as teak and played in the days when hookers needed particular skills. George had them in spades.
