@viking25

If it is Kear, so be it, I'm prepared to give him a chance, ultimately anyone coming in needs to be afforded a period of goodwill because things are genuinely so bad.

Whether that was Kear or anyone else mentioned in dispatches or on here.

But I agree, 6 weeks is far too long. Kear ironically enough left Bradford on the same day as SF.

I hope its not Kear, no offence to the man as he's had a great coaching career, but that Sheffield Challenge Cup win was 26 years ago now. I would rather have Neil Kelly than Kear.

However IF no one else of a decent standard wants the job and Kear agrees to take it to the end of the season then fair enough. If it happens he turns things around by the end of the season then give him a 2 year deal, if we carry on getting beat every week, see who is available and wants the job at the end of the year.

Looks like it’s all pointing towards John Kear with an announcement early next week, if people are to be believed.

Can’t understand why it’s taken 6 weeks to appoint an out of work coach.

Would be an incredible underwhelming appointment, but guess it shows you where Widnes are as a club.

Kear doesn't want to take on a club role until after Wales' international in France.

Hopefully that rules him out then!

Could there be a situation where they announced Kear, RoB takes the York game on the 12th then Kear takes over for the London game after the International Break on the 26th?

Not that I'm clamouring for any of this btw 🤣

The Hull FC CC win was only 17 years ago 🤣 🤣 🤣

If we are 'expanding' next year time may have been spent setting up a short term deal with Kear to see us out of this season, then appointing a new coach in for next year with Kear mentoring as Director of Rugby.

This can include discussions with a coach presently at another club ready for next year.

Agreed that we can't afford to just jettison all remaining matches but next year is the 'must' upgrade or we are busted totally.

@sandgroper Does anyone, probably including RFL, have any idea what is happening next year? I read recently that McDermott wanted a 14 team SL next year, with Leigh and Featherstone promoted and no relegation; and then the drawbridge drawn up from SL thereafter. Nothing would surprise me with the way the game is run these days.

We need a coach now and hopefully he - or maybe she, you never know - will be able to turn things around this year and build for better season next year. If the best of the bunch is Kear, then let’s go with him, perhaps with an ambitious younger coach looking to learn from his experience in the game.

Kear isn’t the man to take us forward in my opinion

I don’t know who we are in talks with so it’ll be interesting to see who’s appointed

Kear isn’t my choice, but I fail to see how he won’t improve us (to be fair, I also fail to see how he’s our first choice).

We need somebody to make these players accountable for their performances, they’ve been getting away with it for too long. I expect him to bring a bit of structure too, which is badly missing. The defence is all over the place.

This is thing. I don't think beggars can be choosers and even 18 months of Kear would at least bring about a more competitive side IMO.

Also, potentially I guess some scope for him to sign different players with his connections, Finney and Finances permitting.

Not somebody I would have wanted at Widnes....too old school for me but I will reserve judgement until he has had a chance. I hope that finances permitting he has complete say over signings and I would expect to see a few big rough props here pretty soon as that is the Kear way
