No, that ship has sailed. We need an old fashioned half back guiding the team around the pitch and taking on the opposition line. Not sure if Tom did that today because I never seen it but still, no.

Gilmore seemed to guide Batley around today. Too many injuries when he got his chances here, but a better player than many gave him credit for. He seemed to become the whipping boy for a few on here, but both he and Widnes have moved on. He is clearly held in high regard by the Batley coach.

At 27 Gilmore seems to have got over his injury problems and playing a good game in a decent Championship team.  Brough's best years are way behind him now.

I am not sure that Lyons is the answer at half-back, there may be some scope for development. If the hypothetical choice was between Lyons and Gilmore for next year, I would go for Gilmore, but he would probably limp off in his first game.

Is it just a coincidence that Gilmore seemed to carry a lot of injuries when he was at Widnes, but not the same extent of injuries since he left?

Well said Frank, a real trier but on here he could not do right for doing wrong. Remember Widnes Widgey moaning and he wasn’t even playing. Good luck Tom fir proving them wrong.👍👍🏉🏉

So much depends on the other team members/coach/ style of play. When things work its good but it takes a very strong-willed player to make a team play his way - not many about these days.
