Looking at the squad we are very close to a full strength side with only Grady (I think) not playing from our numbers 1-17. If Cas do field a fair few youngsters we’d be expecting to win this game.

They’ve only named 5 first team players.
Quite underwhelming.
Rather play a Champ 1 side, at least it wouldn’t be against kids.

Cas are going to get smashed, they have named 5 players from the first team squad, but I’ve only heard of 3 of them, the wingers Eden and Clare and the prop Hepi that they signed from Toulouse. The other 2 Turner and O’neil are young lads that I’ve not heard of.
They have also named a 16 year old, 3 17 year olds and 2 players from Keighley as they have a dual reg agreement with them.
I don’t see the point in putting 16 and 17 year olds in to a full contact game with senior pro’s. 1 or 2 maybe but not 20 of them!

Agree that playing a game against a youthful Cas side isn’t necessarily glamourous, but this needs to be all about us, how the new players and tactics gel together…

A little concerned about the whole pre-season programme really.
Played basically our reserves/academy against Rochdale and won easy.
The first team are going to play against effectively Castleford’s reserves/academy and should (hopefully) win.
Then next week playing against a League 1 North Wales side that we should beat comfortably with even a second string out.
Will the first team have got any real, competitive preparation for new season?

Wasn’t there talk about us playing Toronto and Salford behind close doors?
Most clubs’ pre season is different these days, due to the make up of the season.

I am going to get a look at our new signings to see how they go. I would have preferred a stronger Cas team but on the other hand if they had put a full strength side out & slaughtered us what would that do for our confidence. Our first game is Oldham away which should not be too difficult for us so we can get up to speed against them followed by Batley at home. I am not too bothered to be honest. I just hope we do not get any serious injuries.

Don’t see what the issue is with the opponents strength
The aim of pre season friendlies is to get to match fitness and shake the cobwebs off
In our situation with so many new players they need to learn each other’s games and gel together , that’s not going to happen if they spend most of their time under the sticks

Totally agree with that hopefully working some plays against an easier opposition

Que for the South Stand was massive and would of missed kick off. Walked straight into the North, paid £15 on the gate and perfect seat near the top on the half way line 🙂
