As you say plenty of other things to do so it's not a massive pool compared to others but when things are done properly at good clubs (& there are enough of them about the country) we should be doing better.

Apart from the general mismanagement of the game up high where are we lacking?

Intensity of games is a big one. We can play well for spells, but someone cracks as there aren't many 80 min arm wrestles. There will be higher number of intense matches in 1 week of the NRL than in an entire season of SL.

Opportunity - In the key positions especially how many are taken by non British players in Super League? Far too many! Quota's should be massively reduced IMO.

Incentive - Average salary it says is about £75k, but that will be skewed by marquee signing and big names. If you're a squad player you could earn as much away from the game, without getting battered week in week out. Plus it must be a killer to see an overpaid, aging Aussie get a shedload more £ than our youngsters, many who don't earn it.

Ambition - Some clubs want a closed shop & others are just happy with a seat at the table. All self serving.

Exposure - Sky did help Super League with good deals and exposure for a long time, but with a declining product and less bargaining power they're now extracting the urine on both counts. 

Decision makers - The fact that its club CEO's who have such a big say in how things are run is a joke. Make it independent.

Add in an executive board who don't know their backside from their elbow, but continue to massively take out of a dwindling pot and you have a recipe for disaster. What will be interesting is if/when the NRL take over just how much & how quickly things improve. I suspect it will be quite a lot, quite quickly which will further highlight just how much of a shocking job the RFL have been doing for about 20 years now.

You say `community clubs have massive numbers`

Hardly massive compared to other sports

Football,Swimming,Basketball,Cricket,Rugby Union,various forms of Martial Arts  all have much greater numbers of children involved.

Rugby League is on a par with,maybe less than some of Badminton,Athletics.Tennis,Golf,Boxing....and there are more

I`m afraid it`s an uphill battle to get children involved and then keep the interest going.

Won't make a jot of a difference. 

With all sports the elite is the top of a pyramid.       .         

How good the elite are depends on the size of the base of the pyramid 

The base for RL in England is just so small compared to down under that realistically there is no chance of evey being truly competitive on a regular basis. 

Can the base of the pyramid be made bigger? That needs people with the right attitude and coaching ability........

Anyway now they are saying they have been quoted over £1m so are not sorting the pitch and are spending the money on the squad instead. They have special dispensation from the RFL about the in goal areas being shorter than the minimum allowed.

James Graham hinted at some kind of investigation being needed. In my eyes the whole Bulls 10th place, full funding when York and Toulouse with higher league positions and better facilities only got 50% funding and also the sale of the ground to the RFL and back again needs some kind of further external investigation as something is just not right about all of it. 

The RFL bought Odsal for £1.25m. First question why? They were never going to use it, or make money renting it so that's red flag no.1!

Then they sold it back years later, for only £100k initial payment, then another £160k spread over 5 years. Who signed off on the £990k loss, the payment terms and the deal as a whole?

Who decided that there was no conflict of interest given Mr Wood's involvement on both sides at some point from the start, middle and end of this deal which went on over many years?

Who signed off on the IMG deal?

I'm not saying anything dodgy happened (I have no proof, and wouldn't dare to in written print!), but why has nobody been investigated and/or sacked for gross negligence/incompetency of the above points?

Idiots running and ruining the game, aided and abetted by a handful of owners looking after their own teams interests, and a few just happy to be at the top table.

It would be a lot more powerful however if the Championship clubs did this as a collective. We literally have nothing to lose, we are frequently shafted by those running the game. Time to be a bit tougher and bite back, be nice and respectful if its deserved. At the moment it really really isnt.
